My step grandmother= ma belle-grand-mere

If you don't use the "-" it would mean my good-looking grandmother

I have never heard anyone say "ma belle grand-mère" Not once in my life, and that's 24 years of living and being educated in French in a French speaking society. I think people would be more likely to say "la mère de ma belle-mère", or "la mère de mon beau-père" (my stepmother's mother, or my stepfather's mother, depending which it is).
