16 to 18 hours a day on average. Depends on weather, noise level and safety factor while sleeping.

I have never clocked my six cats. There is the morning nap following breakfast. That can last an hour or two. Then there is the afternoon nap which is the longest daytime stretch.

Then, of course, there is the serious sleep through most of the night. The rest of the time is spent: waiting for a meal, eating, grooming their fur, trips to the litterbox, etc. These activities are exhausting for the cats and they need to take a short nap after each one.

Most people would be thrilled to get that much sleep!

I read a study about that somewhere that said they sleep an average of 18 hours. However, from what I've seen with my four cats, it's more like 22 hours.

My cat sleeps depending on how much time I play with her. She's usually awake and active when I'm around. Catnip might help your pet, but attention is the best way to keep your pet active. Play and pay attention, to your pet, whether your talking, playing, or petting. Just remember, every animal is different, just like people. First impressions last the longest.

It seems like my kitties sleep about 22 or 23 hours a day. The other 2 hours they spend playing, pooping and eating.

ya know, I stayed home sick one day, and tried to determine this myself. I have no clue! from what I can tell, my 2 year old cat sleeps during all my waking hours and acts like she is possesed and filled with red bull when I am trying to sleep. so I say.... hmmm.... in a 24 hr period she probably sleeps.... 16-18 hours
