I am thinking about purchasing a voice recognition software, and I will probably have to modify my computer somewhat. My wife's handicap demands that I find a way around a standard keyboard. But will Dragon software Naturally Speaking do the job?

I have this program and it works really well. The main thing is to stick with it and keep using it when you get it. The set-up procedure is tedious but speaking is really much fater than typing. What I had to do was continually speak with the program so that it comes to recognize the way your voice works and what kind of word pronunciation you have.
Bottom line: Get it. You will be able to get words on your screen much faster than typing. And it is the best program on the market for this sort of thing. Pretty soon it will be able to learn your voice so well that it makes very few mistakes. Best suited for professionals that who do not have much time or need a 'secretary' to dictate to.

Yes, I have used it for years.
You need to "train" it first, and tweak it for awhile, but it really is quite good. You have to talk a bit slower than normal ... but its not too bad. I have used it for chatting, for writing letters, for commands, all of it. Just make sure your computer has the specs to run it, and that you have at least 512 mb of ram.

It can help. It studies and recognizes the voice of the person who is using it. Sometimes it messes up though.

I've heard it's one of the best programs to use for speach software when it comes to disabilties

If you have microsoft office, try using the speech tools with it.
You may find they are adequate.
