I can't answer that. I've been on a break since 1989.

First of all the right man did not come into my life unitl I was 28, then married at 30 to same man, and still married to same man at the age of 36 which I am now.
Now onto you, being on a break and single can be a true blessing. Are you happy with yourself physically and mentally?
Are you well rounded? I know your probably wondering what in the world does this have to do with dating?
Well to be able to be with the right person for you and in a healthy relationship you must be a happy and whole person.
Physically fit people feel better increasing their "happiness and being satisfied factor". Even if your skinny or thin but not doing any exercising I highly recommend it. Gives you something to do in your extra time, is a great conversation topic, and is healthy for your inside.
Second, how is your mental state? Are you generally happy, or at least satisfied with your life, your talents,abilities?
If not find out why, start by writing an honest list about what you do not like about yourself, and then make an honest effort to change. Perhaps your talent is lacking and you can take a acting course, horseback riding,Karate, knitting,etc.
How about writing a book of poetry about your last relationship and how you feel being on a break?
THE REASON everyone needs to WORK on themselves first is because people are attracted to others who have a sense of self-worth and feel good about themselves, and look good too.
Plus when your truly satisfied with your life and everything you are doing then being on a break single won't be so big a deal.
You can wait patiently for the right person to come along.
If your not a happy well rounded,educated,talented person and most importantly do not know yourself, then there is absolutely no way to tell when the right person is there,really.
Hope this helps, don't worry about an acceptable time frame, your heart and mind will let you know when the time comes.
If you feel funny,guitly or strange asking someone on a date or being asked on a date then your NOT READY.
YOU are the only person who can answer your question for the mental and spiritual health of yourself.

Wait a while (3 days).. and dont date peeps who skateboard or wear tight pants. Or have long bangs, but short hair.
They don't need encouragement and They won't help your life at all and could possibly hurt it.

depends on what you told the bf a "break" was, if you insinuated that you wanted to be alone then you can't. if you told him you wanted to see some other people he knows you already are.
