If you say that was the law of the land back then, you have to disregard the whole bible

If the old testament does not apply, the Adam and Eve story goes down the drain

That's why we're Christians. We know more about it than Atheists.

the slavery addressed by the New Testament or that any particular endorsement was given to the forms addressed. The Bible's teaching on government provides a helpful illustration. If the New Testament commands the Christian to "submit himself to the governing authorities (Rom.13:1)" it does not mean the Scripture endorses dictatorship or oppression. Just as slavery is a kind of work, corrupt government is still a form of the ideal instituted and ordained for our well-being. It is our attitude towards God's institution not an uncritical endorsement of government's distortion by us that is being addressed. Similarly the New Testament's instruction to the master/slave situation is not an endorsement of slavery but of right relationships within the field of labor.

Atheists don't know more about my beliefs than I do because they don't know what I believe. They just have a penchant for cherry picking verses out of the Bible in order to make a vain attempt to discredit God's Word so that they can continue in their sins.

That's pretty pathetic! Before I ever became a Christian or even showed up for church the first time I didn't act like that. I just lived my life and did what seemed right in my own eyes and didn't worry about what "religious" people thought. I tend to think that people who have some knowledge about what the Bible says and who continue to mock God and rebel against his commands will suffer a greater punishment if they don't turn to Christ before they die.

"And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. Luke 12:47-48

I think because Atheists are afraid of the truth. The Bible is the truth, written by men inspired by the power of The Holy Spirit. The verse you are referring to does not say "God is not ageist slavery". I believe that in biblical times is was "Normal" to have a slave or man/maid servant. We know now that his is a degrading practice and is not acceptable in our times. Jesus said "Love all others as I have loved you.". John 15:12

Also if you look at the stoy of Hagar and Ishmeal in Gen 21, there is a child of a slave who God makes well and "makes him into a great nation" (GEN 21:18).

OK Mr. You really have something against Christians, don't you?

The Old Testament is not to be taken literally. ANY of it. All the old laws are out. The stories are all just that--stories to teach us. They are not literal stories. Yes they have historical background, but they were changed to make a point. When the walls of Jerico fell in 7 days in the bible, history tells us it was weeks, if not months, before they fell. So there goes your little arguement.

The New Testament is to be taken much more literally, with the exception of Revelations. That book has already happened. All the stories are true about Jesus, though.

Anymore questions contact me. I am also perfectly willing to debate any topic you would care to discuss.

Brother, the word slave appears once in the Bible, in new NT.

Servants were treated well, that verse backs it up. Its just like employment today, things were run different, there was no currency.

If a servant wanted to go free, he could after a 7 year contract. Of course most servants stayed with their masters, because they were treated well.

Of course this changed alot after the laws were given, because Israel rebeled oh so many times.

Because God allowed men to choose how they lived. It's not hard but so few understand how broad that is. It even includes slaves, he said if you must have slaves treat them good, mankind no longer looks for or condones slavery, thank goodness for that.

We are all slaves to our own physical body and physical needs, this will die along with our physical bodies and our spirit will be free of these things we think we need, or must have or whatever.

May God continue to make you ponder the passages and meditate on what is written that is the sole purpose of the Bible really.

Read the rest of Exodus. I do believe that God sent Moses to free the slaves. I do believe that God sent 7 plagues to Egypt in order to convince Pharaoh to free the slaves. Remember that part? Or do I know more about my belief than you do?

You are reading way TOO much into the scripture that you gave. God was talking about servants and maids. No different than butlers and maids today. They were NOT slaves.

Why do atheists want to know what we believe? Are they afraid God might prick their heart unto salvation? They just might have to give up all that sin they practice?

Don't be so uppity as to presume what we believe or if God is for slavery. You are nitpicking.

You either take the Holy WORD of God literally or not at all.

If you want an answer, then ask...."Is God for or against slavery?"

I thought I made myself crystal clear in the response to your last question: You are afraid of truth, because it points to the reality of God, and you don't feel good deep down inside about being out of control before an all-powerful God.

Christians, please take note of these facts and learn from it so that when you deal with these people you can confront their true weakness. This is what they need most is to be brought to the truth. **And if you don't believe it, watch me get more thumbs down than anyone else for speaking the truth**
