I believe, and evidence supports, that they can hear you and it makes a very big difference. When my dad was dying and he was comatose and nurses told me he couldn't hear me I never gave up. Then when he would have a lucid moment he would say something to me about what I had been saying to him when he was "comatose." I figure there are so many things that I wish I would have said and that's something you don't want to live with. If they can't hear you, no loss, but if they can? What a gift. Blessings.

I don't remember. Was in coma when I was 8 years old for 3 weeks. As far as being aware of what was going on around me can't actually recall if there was anything or not.

Yes, I have experienced and seen my self. My brother was in comma and was dying. He was waiting for his son to return from London. We presented his third son, pretending to be his first one, but on hearing the voice he did nothing but aftering a long wait of 17 hours when his first son arrived, took father's hand and spoke to him in his ears, the father flickered his eyebrows, tears rolled down and within 2 hours he passed away.
So I am pretty sure that person even at dying stage can hear being in comma.

TO some extent it depends upon the damage done or the degree of comma, whatever it is known as. THought in different degree, but the words spoke ARE HEARD, and this is sure.

yes.

People in coma can very well hear you what you are speaking. they can understand. they cannot respond to it as they are in coma. This is 100% percent true . I saying out of my own experience where my own grandpa was in coma and passed away . I used to speak to him as to what happened evryday and let him know all the updates when he was in coma. the day when he was about to pass away , he got his senses back and spoke to my mom that "he knows evrything and your daughter told me. I was listening to you people. I could not respond." he passed away in my mom's hands. that time I was not there.

As a nurse, I would never discount the fact that a patient might hear what you are saying. I always encourage family members to talk to their loved ones who appear to be in a vegetative state.

Having not had the experience myself, I can only say that my friends in the medical field confirm that this is true for people who have a certain level of brain function or higher, but for people who are turly gorked, probably not or not that they can understand.
