The government would over thrown, secretarian violence would increase until there was a victorious faction, who then would take over, democracy would be traded in for dictatorship, thousand more 'dissedents' would be killed, basically the same type of life under Saddam would come to bear. Iran would no doubt slip in there own puppets to positions of power, and join in al-quiada's rethoric of 'America(west) has no resolve, we made them bow to us, Islam is great, blah, blah, blah. And they would be right, about the America has no resolve part. The rest is just blah, blah, blah.

A phased US & UK troop withdrawal from either Iraq or Afghanistan would leave both the national governments open to increased attack by insurgent groups and eventual collapse - it is inevitable a matter of time [Example: After the USSR quit Afghanistan, the Talibans emerged the strongest of the various factions, hence tookover the country with their primitive brand of Islamic rule under strict Syariah Law.]
When US-UK troops withdraws there will be an upsurge in violence to topple the US installed government which has very brittle support from the masses (any government approved by the US can never rule the muslim masses); the regular army will disintegrate to join one of the insurgent groups... and YES you can put your money on the Iranian-backed group to emerge victorious. The government backed by Iran will reduce bloodshed and maintain law & order according to Syariah Law.
Withdrawal from Iraq-Afghanistan is unlikely for the next few years until there's a conclusive solution to the Iran problem [Iraq & Afghanistan share common borders with fundamentalist Iran].

If the troops were withdrawn the terrorists would use the process of withdrawal and target the small number of troops that were still there waiting to be transferred out. Things would not settle down there if we were to leave now. The civil war would be insane until one sect nearly wiped out another. The government that is in place and struggling now would most likely be overthrown and in a short amount of time attacks on america would resume.
My beloved is there now, serving until next year. I would love to see our troops come home. But not at the expense of so many lives. Honestly, I think we should have had a better plan to begin with. If we are going to go to war, we need to do it like the Israeli's. They don't play around. They bomb the hell out of everyone, quick and forceful. At any rate, we are stuck there now, at least until the new government and its army are strong enough to defend itself.

After desestabilize Iraq politics, its easier to withdraw or give responsability to UN but ins't right.
After destroy local elite, it takes too long time to have another elite into power and It will not stabilize within next 10 years ..... or just a ditactor like Saddam would be able to handle everything. ... Look to Afganisthan...
Withdraw is a terrible solution, once only most aggressive groups will take power.

I just want to see our lads home and then close our doors and keep out of any ones affairs permanently, like for instance Denmark ,Norway, Finland, and even Canada, we have enough on our plate here at home to get our own house in order, service personnel could be amalgamated with police patrols 24/7 in all our cities and I guarantee we would be vandal free in a year so how about thinking about it government and put it in practise, lets make a move one way or another NOW

its very difficult. in the case of withdrawal it would lead to full blown civil war. each group thinks the other is the devil incarnate. so no on withdrawal. the only solution is to provide a better standard of living for the Iraqi people. what good is freedom if your hungry, sick, and possibly dying. by raising the standard of living by providing better health care, education, and local security (police force) the next generation won't have to resort to violent means. they will be pursuing a living instead of being brainwashed all day in the mosques. i think that this generation is almost lost and that America MUST take notice of the kids raised in war torn Iraq. adolescence is a sensitive time for any child and how they are treated can mean their future. In the U.S.A. our kids may resort to Death Metal and the anti authority crowd while in Iraq a teen will strap himself to a bomb. Well I say lets stop that downward spiral in the beginning instead of midway.

We could expect an immediate and meteoric rise in violence in Iraq followed by an increase in terrorist attacks in the UK and the US. Iraq would become a terrorist state and it would have it's own funding (oil). The amount of bloodshed would increase as those individuals not appropriately appreciative of the new government would be stoned to death, beheaded or simply disappear. Then they would come for us.

Their would be a civil war (which their will be anyway) and one brand of Islam will come out on top. It will be them who will rule Iraq. And withdraw would reduce American bloodshed but not Arab. And if we haven't been able to form a peacefull government by now we never will.

Well the troops are also serving as peacekeepers while establishing their government, so if we pulled out now, all hell would break loose basically. Iraq isn't stable enough yet for that to happen, still way to many incidences going on. There are of course people who are displeased with the military presence, and act violently to them, but if we left, it would be total chaos, and even more would blood would be shed, especially that of civilians. OK, I'll get off of my soapbox now....

Cut and Run?
Let history tell us what we allowed to take place when we initiated this policy of cut and run in Viet Nam. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children were slaughtered by the North Vietnamese and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.
And these dirt bags were arguably not nearly as ruthless as the Islamic terrorists!
Please consider the commitment we have made to the Iraqis who are supportive and dependent on our continued help in their fight for their rights and freedom. After years of oppression like you cannot even imagine, they have been given the opportunity to have a government that answers to them, instead of the other way around.
Let's keep our promise this time.
