I've looked at a few contradictions that people usually palm off enmasse, and all of the ones I have looked at are not really contradictions. Are there any real ones???

contradiction

n 1: opposition between two conflicting forces or ideas 2: (logic) a statement that is necessarily false; "the statement `he is brave and he is not brave' is a contradiction" [syn: contradiction in terms] 3: the speech act of contradicting someone; "he spoke as if he thought his claims were immune to contradiction"

Gratvol: Luke 23 "33When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."[e] And they divided up his clothes by casting lots."

Dvlsadvoct: All of these are not really contradictions by definition. Each one seems to have a logical flaw.
eg. X had 4 sons.
X had 10 sons.
Explanation: It is possible at one time X had 4 sons, and at another time had 10 sons. This is not a contradiction.
eg2. God said do this.
God said don't do this.
again, God could have said both things in different contexts...
not a contradiction.

X southernbelle: Exactly how are these contradictions?

Filipe: Bible says "You shall not murder", (which is a moral law) not "you shall not enforce my laws upon lawbreakers". The other law is a civic law.
Similar to capital punishment.
This is not a contradiction.

Mercury: This website is quite amusing. They don't actually mention any contradictions, but what they say is interesting about there being no physical evidence of Jesus. If jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven there would be no physical evidence of him (an empty grave). Lots of straw men in this one though...

Duckphup: I got the definition from a reliable dictionary. Are you arguing about literary semantics now? I am trying to be logical here and use a standard accepted definition. I don't think changing definitions to support an agenda is a good thing to do.

If you say yes, tons, and then don't list any, your not very credible. Just for starters. And also, the Jesus being violent one...when Jesus was in Gethsemane, and getting arrested, Pteter lops off dud'e ear, Jesus says, no not like that, puts guy's ear back on and LETS Himself be taken away. he then suffers immense torture and death by crucifiction. All without becoming violent bakc. the Bible also tlaks aoubt this thing called a 'righteuos anger' many, many times. The temple thing with Jesus, Bible says do not defile the Lord's house. They were like, gambling and things, which was clearly a sin. Hence, righteous anger and thus destruction of the temple. Also, in the list of things, Jesus birth year is not a contradiction to anytihng. Just because it may not be either stated or stated clearly does not make it::

I have not looked yet at all the so called contradictions, but the ones I have are not!

Most are of the order of:
I met a Texan
He was from New York

Is the above in conflict? No, if he was born in NY and lived in Texas, or if he was returning from NY!
or even raised in Texas and moved to NY, and I met him in say Calif.

So I don't think there are any real contradictions in the bible, but that will not stop them!

Lots. I will give you a clear example and then you can do yourself a favour and read the Bible and find out the many others by yourself.

Don't Kill
"Thou shalt not kill." Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17

Kill
"And the Lord said unto Moses, The man [who was found picking up sticks on the sabbath] shall be surely put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones".Numbers 15:35

Funny how you leave out the APPLICABLE definition of 'contradiction': "thing, or situation in which inconsistent elements are present."

It is not necessary for statements t be opposites in order fot them to be contradictory, as you FALSELY claim. In fact, all of the things that you cited ARE contradictions... you are just trying to mislead people by providing a non-applicable definition. Very sneaky and underhanded... a form of LYING, one might say. Does your bible teach you that? No? Well, then, do not your actions, then, contradict the tenets of your faith?

YES, It says so right in the Bible itself.

There are only three Absolutes in the Bible.

1. God is the father of Jesus.

2. Mary is the mother of Jesus.

3. Jesus was sacrificed by God to absolve our sins.

No, there aren't. And for those that are bound and determined to find any, they will read into the texts and make up what they want to find. They will FIND contradictions or make them up for themselves. People, those that don't want to believe in the Bible as the word of God Jehovah as given to mankind for his guidance, his education and instruction, will do whatever it takes to make the word of the Bible appear as false or misuse it to their own good. These are heretics and not worth listening to, as they are from their father, Satan the devil, the father of the lie.
People are desperate in this time of the end to follow one of two paths; the wide and broad path into destruction that is super easy to follow. THIS path teaches that ALL religions teach the same thing- in the end- and that all paths lead to the same place, blah blah blah.... Which is simply not true.

The other path, a smaller, narrower path, which is much harder to find and follow, leads only to salvation . It is only a few who choose to follow this path and they are the true believers in God and his word, and in the ransom sacrifice of his Son , Jesus Christ, sent to earth to live and die on behalf o fall that would believe in him.

I have heard people accuse God's word of this many times, but not once when confronted can they give one example that pans out. I have proven them wrong every time. A few times the response was, " well okay that one wasn't, but there are others."
But when confronted, they couldn't come up with others. It is just the adversary working against God the Father.

The bible is full of inaccuracy and contradictions, I find things I have read in the bible very hard to understand or even accept as being logical. This is one of the reasons I left the Christian religion

There are a couple that are numeric contradictions, but thats all I know of. I know most of the other alleged contradictions but any would be cleared up if the whole Bible was read and if they knew a little about Jewish history.
