I have a Beagle (Bam) who is 2 1/2 years old. We have recently moved, leaving the house he grew up in his entire life. When I leave for classes for the day, someone is still with him but he just won't stop barking. We have another dog, about a year old, and he seems to stop after a few barks but my beagle just won't stop. He doesn't seem to be barking at anything particular or anything just sitting on our couch where he has peripheral of both the door and window and just barks. We're pretty confused about it but we think he maybe trying to show that though he has moved, this is too his territory over our 1 year old dog because we have caught him peeing and pooping other in the house yet he has been house broken for about 2 years. If anyone can help, we would appreciate it.

It sounds like he has gotten seperation anxiety. We recently moved to another state and are battling the same problem with our 4 yr old Shepard--enough so that animal control came and warned us that he is barking all day. So, I talked to our vet who suggested putting him in a place in your new home that would be comforting to him, leave for 5 minutes come back and praise him if he was quiet. Keep repeating that while increasing your time and he should learn that you leaving does not mean that you are leaving for good. It is true that you need to walk your dogs daily to expend some of that energy.

My Beagle has never been a barker. But you might try crate training. I have found that effective with my other dogs (who bark alot) And the water bottle and a stern voice work really well with most dogs. They need to know YOU are in charge not them. I would use the collar as a last resort.

How would you feel if someone wanted to shut you up. the dogs has vocal chords that he needs to use just like you do. Is he neutered, or maybe he's tired of being cooped up. I had a corgi who did the same thing. i dont care how many times he went out he would come back in and bark. We finally gave him to my sister who lives in a house with a yard and the problem was solved.

You should have researched the breed before getting the dog. That's what Beagles do, howl and bark incessantly.

I've heard that problem is prevalent among beagles. Someone even founded a special beagle rescue because people were dumping their beagles after seeing how much trouble they can be.

Before leaving for classes take your dog for a 30-60 minute walk. This long walk will use up some of his energy and take care of his toileting needs. Also walks are an excellent way to establish yourself as boss of your dog. If you can't walk him, get someone else to walk him. Also when you return, take him for a walk.

Yeah beagles are like that. i doubt theres anything wrong, they just seem to like the sound of their own voice[much like my mother-in-law] I got a real nice beagle for free because the neighbors were complaining in town. He quieted down after awhile after we decided i could yell louder. I live in the boonies and he couldn't bother anyone when i was'nt home. I just told him to knock it off in a gruff voice and made him understand i wasn't happy with him. dogs generally want to please. So.........about all you can do is to talk him out of it.

You need to show him that you are boss, and tell him to stop barking. My dogs have the same problem. When they start, either look at them and tell them to stop in a commanding voice, or play with them, they might want attention.

beagles are barkers non stop, they have surgery that you can have their vocal cords removed so they don't bark. but thats kinda drastic
