In the case of 99% of men out there it mean he has been thinking about what it would be like if u two never mett and if u broke up for a little while to just see what else is out there. Men don't ploy and connive much and pretty much speak their mind. He may be having thoughts about breaking up but boys aren't about working on a strategem to milk the relationship for all it's worth and steal out in the night. When he's ready to try a seperation he'll tell you, until then he's not. However if it's sounding like a good idea, talk to him about it. Be sensitive to his feelings and above all be fair with him.

I think the guy wants space, more of a non-exclusive relationship. Best thing to do would be to re-evaluate your relationship and see if it's worth working on about.
Don't be too quick to throw in the towel, but don't waste time on a hopeless venture.

i've heard that one before ... guys suck at being straight to the point ... he's probably found someone else and wants to see where it will go with her but keep you as a back up ... just break up with this loser, he'll always be looking for the bigger better deal!!

Doesn't sound to good. Sounds like he is testing the waters to cheat. Confront him. Tell him if he is unhappy he should go out and find what he is looking for. But when he doesn't find it, tell him not to come crawling back to you.

I think he wants to break-up with you but doesn't want to do it to spare your feelings he probably wants you to break it off so he doesn't have to and I bet if you do break it off he will be releaved maybe you should break-up he aint worth it honey.
