Where does this bitterness come from? Why would you hold onto it and let it eat away at you like a cancer?

We all have our personal beliefs and ideals. We all must live as we believe. But that does not mean we must hate everyone. You and you know who I am talking too seem to hate all Christians and thiests.

Without the hate they have nothing. Been there, done that, got tired of it. It's no way to live.

Because unlike others I know what makes me happy, and that is to see perfect vengeance flow like wine, to see my enemies fall...is what gives me the most pleasure.
Do you not have a hobby? I have mine.
Actually you might ask why people seek love...think of how many divorces we have today, and how many spouses get murdered for money, by the people they would have given their lives to. What is love but emotion in which you are so tempted to deny the truth for what it really is?
Also, on a side note, have you ever heard the saying, "to truly understand a man and his hard comings, you must walk a mile in his shoes", perhaps you do not understand because you have never hated anyone to the fullest potential, it is just like any other emotion, how can you describe happy, or sad to someone else. Try it yourself if you truly want to know. If you have tried to hate someone to the fullest potential, then alas I'm sorry but I don't be live we can answer your question.

This question could most easily be answered with something short and sweet such as...it's easy to ride the horse of hate, but difficult to stop.
More to the point, however, bitterness is the expression of a hatred towards life after life has so often failed to manifest one's expectations. Eventually, this attitude of bitterness can become almost automatic, habitual, and operating semi-unconsciously. If there is one thing that all peoples, including myself, would best remember, it would be this:
With kindness and patience towards all, accept all blessings given you this day. And, everything this day is a blessing. Reject nothing, but your own attachment to desires and expectations.

I do because I do not have any good people around me at the moment to act as a buffer for my suffering and weakness.
Others do because other people have hated them before, and they are just spreading it, like the disease it is.
That's how hate and all forms of human evil work: someone hates you, you hate someone, that someone hates someone else, etc - it's a chain reaction that can only be stopped by love, and not just superficial respect and patronism.
Unfortunately, most people simply don't have the power to remove or pacify their hate because it has taken control of them like a virus, destroying their moral immune system, if you will.

im not hatefilled or anything but i had to answer this Q. people foster such hatred because most are uninformed and dont have an outlet for such anger. jealousy is a main factor too, people just werent raised to appreciate what they have and love everyone around them. i know i kinda sound like a hippie but its true.

I hold one piece of bitterness close to me, forever, until I can take revenge on these people. I have held onto it for a long time--too long, as many friends tell me. But I hold onto it because these people ruined my life. I am forever changed because of them, and until they are punished, I will never be truly happy. After a while, it is no longer the reason binding you, but the revenge. It is a horrible thing in some cases, but it has fueled me to do things that I would have never thought of--good things, in my case.

Debra M,
Because we were taken out of the world. Jesus said that. He also said that we should know that it hated Him before it hated us.
This bitterness comes from the mind frame of sin and the Devil, and they are parted out many times by Jesus and the Apostles. Often referred to as, "the World."
15:19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

I'm not one of them, but the reason people get mad, hate, argue, fight - is because they want something they are not getting. Think about it. The root cause of hate and its many manifestations is lust (not necessarily consisiting of nor devoid of sexual lust) - a lust more like a want, a craving, a need that they just are not getting.

Please be more clear as to what you mean by hate. There is a good hate and a bad hate. A righteous hate or an evil/sinful hate?
You can hate without being bitter...can't you?
If Osama Bin Laden walked up to you, would you give him a big hug and say "I love you Osama"...and "thanks for 9-11". Get for real. There are just some people you almost have to hate. Get it?

Actually the outpouring of hatred is inspired by the abrahamic scriptures which have this need to create "us and them". The world will be a better place when everybody chucks the bible, koran and torah into recycle bins and become humanists, and practise kindness out of pure altruism.
