I am so sick of the debate whether a mom should stay at home or go to work. I am so sick of hearing other people's opinions imposed on other people. Dr. Phil even devotes entire shows to it to let these two factions battle it out. I have heard women debating two times this week already and I am really sick of it. Why can't people just accept that there are millions of different people with millions of different cicumstances, and that a woman who choses to work is not a selfish monster who is neglectful to her children and a stay at home mom is not someone who sits at home and eats bon bons. This is the 21st century, and because of the femanist movement, we have a choice to stay at home, or go to work. I really wish people would just get off thier soap boxes, and thinking first and foremost about thier children, not how wrong they think others are.

I think it is because of our own insecurities and guilt that we feel like we have to justify our choice to stay at home or go back to work.

I myself was a stay home mum for 14 years,on and off.I chose to stay home and look after the children, but l also know that l have been lucky to have been able to have that choice as my husband has always had a good wage. Some women don't have a choice, they have no choice but to work. Now at the moment l work about 8 hours a week as a counsellor, and when l am working,my husband stays at home to look after our 3 and half year old.I now are working not for the money, but a way of meeting new people(from the same service where l work).I think that it's great that your husband stays home to look after the children.2 of my uncles have done the same thing in the past, and their children have grown up to be amazing adults.

Because people find a reason to fight. I was a SAHM for child #1 until she was 9 months then I went to work. After child 2 I was a SAHM for 2 years.

You do whats best for you.

Daycare is giving my children a great experience, but staying home with them kept them growing and learning on a great one-on-one pace.

Like EVERYTHING in the world there is good and bad about being a SAHM or a Working Mom. I was lucky to be both and know first hand that BOTH is hard work!

Some people will never accept it. And debate and argument about everything will always be.
As an attorny you should understand debate and argument as that is what you do to win your case (s).
If you dont like what you hear on TV, shange the channel, if you dont want to hear someones opinion about something tell them in a simple but nice way that you'd rather not hear it.
I feel like you feel the need to make yourself feel okay with your own life. As long as your kids best interests are being served, then why do you sem to feel guilty over the choices you have made in your own life?

I want to be a stay at home mom simply because i never had one growing up and I (Just me personally) feel it's important! I do not think either party is right or wrong!
We live in a country (Or countries) where there is freedom of speech! And people are entitled to their opinion! But i know women who feel superior to others because they work! Thats not right, it may be good for you, but what about your children! My brother has been raised in day cares, and i personally don't want that for my children!
Although if the situation occured where I would have to work, I would work!
I don't think anyone is wrong, i just believe this world would be a safer and better place if people did what was best for their children! And not just for them!

I agree with you. I think this whole "debate" stems from the fact that both feel that they are right and that they are doing what is best for their children. So they feel that must make the "other side" wrong? Which of course, isn't the case.
Respect others for their choices. As long as their children are happy, loved and developing normally, then they must be doing something right!

Alot of people think their opinion is right!!! I am a stay at home mom but I praise the woman that work! There is no way I could work and keep a clean house! But think about it, you complaining about these people is the same as what their doing.

ive done both. i was a single working mom for 10 almost 11 years. and it was hell on everyone. im now a stay at home mom and returning student. our life is much better now that im at home. it all depends on if you live within your means. we dont try to keep up with the jones and us being on a tight budget has motivated my son to get a part-time job. i guess its just what works for each individual. i used to be a nanny so i didnt have to bother with childcare. i raised my children with alot of kids i would watch and we still keep in touch. you have to find what works for you. childcare sucks too because kids get sick alot. thats why they dont go to school till theyre five. their immune systems are immature.

Amen! Thank you for asking this- I was about to ask it myself.
If your kids are fed, you support them emotionally and financially, and you are happy, who cares if you work or not. But people like arguing. That's human nature
