there is no draft right now, so no one is going..so every one has the same opportunity. have you ever seen the movie GI Jane? if yes remember when they are training and Jane is captured and they try to use her to force the men to give up information. Men don't like to see women abused (for the most part), so how would combat be if there were women? every time a women was injured the men would be effected more than if it was a man. just as if a car full of middle aged people blew up vs. a car full of babies. people would be more effected by the babies. not to mention you have mothers of America screaming all kinds of crazy crap. how would women be allowed to be drafted if they currently can't even see combat? make sure they had an admin job? not to mention if we drafted everyone who would take care of the children. daycare workers, teachers most of them are female. how would that work?

and for all of the female bashing comments. have you ever met a women who was in the military, an branch? they have to be physically fit, not to mention the mental fitness needed. and on another note women and men do receive the same training. get your facts straight before you open you mouth.

The reason we let females out of the draft/selective service is also the same reason that we do not allow them to fight on the front lines. As a country we still don't like to see our mothers, sisters, daughters being killed. They can vollenteer all they want for jobs not classified as gender specific such as SF, INF and others. Another reason is that once a war is over/even during the war we don't want our population to suffer more than what war has caused and women only have a select number of times she can become pregnant while men don't. With this also comes to the effect of usually if a war comes down to draft, then there are a higher number of attrocites such as rape, murder, piliaging and other matters of direliction of duty. We aren't going to risk the fact that our female soldiers having been made to go to war by draft could be raped or murdered...it's a politicians nightmare for a woman to come home after being raped and being pregnant.

Hey ladies, how about this, IF there's a draft, include women, give deferments just like they do for men. Children would be a reason. There are many reasons for deferments, gals.

BUT if you want equality on all levels, those in the military should be EQUAL, not privileged. Physcially, do what you are able, they don't expect a mail clerk to qualify as a SEAL, now do they. Pay should be according to ability and rank.

There is no reason women couldn't be fighter pilots, or do many of the dangerous jobs they are now excluded, providing they are physically capable.

Now, being a firefighter, that's a different question.....

You bet...equal opportunity, equal pay, equal chance to serve our country. In fact there have been 3 bills in Congress since 2002-2005 to reinstate the draft for ALL citizens between the ages of 18-26....which of course mean women too (that's the ALL part).

Rep. Rangel a DEMOCRAT from Michigan and Sen. Hollings a DEMOCRAT from South Carolina have introduced the bills....several times. Rangel's is HR 163, The Universal Service Act and Holling's is SB 89. HR has been killed in committee by...you guessed it Rep. Rangel and SB 89 is still sitting in committee waiting a vote...if ever.

How odd that all so many liberals question when the Republicans will start up the draft or that it is the Republicans that want to send our young men and women off to war.

Of course we have not had the draft for 30 years, and at that time the idea of women in combat area was not even considered. And the women did not normally want to serve either.

I would assume if there was a new draft women would be drafted along with men.

Well, why don't males have babies and a period.. shouldn't they have the same opportunity we do?

Give us a break buddy.. why don't they just draft everyone and leave the kids at home to fend for themselves...

I have no problem with females being in the military because I am in but seriously...

I think the main reasons women are not drafted are due to our culture, and it would be difficult on families who had both parents drafted at the same time.

We don't have a draft, so females do have the same military opportunity males do.

Dang straight women should have the same playing field as the men.

Saying "Who will raise the children is sexist - there are many single fathers out there doing a great job."

Can't stand women that whine and complain for equal rights then set limitations on what women should be doing.

deep rooted question there, guess just like why do women have longer hair, and are allowed to wear earrings (males can't wear them even off duty and off base, I know, they do but still against UCMJ), have higher allowable body fat percentages. They should make the standard for the military, not for the sexes. Same job, same pay, same standard
