This is just another example of the detrimental effect ILLEGALS are having in this country. You may be as American as Mom's apple pie, but because you are {presumably?} of Spanish origin, you are automatically suspect. An ILLEGAL alien (NOT immigrant!) is a slap in the face to every immigrant who ever entered into the is country legally.
I agree, it's unfair and ignorant; but, unfortunately, understandable.

American in the sense of the word applies to the NATIVES that were here before the Europeans came to conquest! So if you are from Mexico, any of the caribean islands, Jamaica and Haiti are mostly black, or South America, Chile, Argentina are mostly of European race, you are defeinetly AMERICAn, if from the U.S.A. you are of anglosaxon roots, Britain, Wales, Ireland, because the Italian ,inmigration is considered Latin and not too many french here, so what are you?

if you was a true American you wouldn't be running off at the mouth. I'm happy your legal. that's the way it's suppose to be. read the Constitution. it does not matter who was legal or not when they wrote the Constitution. it was written, there for it made them legal Americana's. they was establishing laws for this country. just like other country's had for there selves. it also says if the old government does not work ,then we as Americans can make a new gov that will work. gee, think that's why bush is crapping in his pants?

Well good for you! But, just keep in mind that there's things like ID thieves, people who'd LOVE to impersonate you, and it's a booming business in places like Mexico...where there's a lot of problems. You could get a big T-shirt that says "I'M AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, SO **** OFF", and have em print it so you get all 50 stars n stripes in there instead of just 4...

Because the people sneaking into this country ILLEGALLY have burdened hard working legal immigrants with this suspicion. You & your family should be at the forfront calling for enforcement of our immigration laws.

It shouldn't matter. I'm Asian and people think I don't speak English all the time. All you have to do is just talk back and then they realize. Eventually people will realize that being American does not equal being a white person. But as long as you have a good sense of you own self that's all you need.

Not enough information here to judge. Maybe it is not the way you look, but the way you speak about this country and other citizens in it.

I surmise that you voiced opinions that are in stark contrast to those of the questioner, or other respondents in Yahoo Answers. Unfortunately, there are many people in Yahoo forums who are juvenile, and in stead of engaging in high minded discourse, would rather take the easy way out and vilify the person they don’t agree with. In the arena of politics, nothing works better to demonize a person whose positions you don’t agree with, or you are incapable of contending with, than claiming that they are illegal or un-American. It’s a tried and true formula for most conservative proponents. Interestingly, it is the same technique, fascists, Communists, and Nazis used in suppressing opponents of their regimes. Americans worked feverishly, with much sacrifice, to rid humanity of these blights, and the irony is that many within our own American conservative wing are willfully engaging in the same deplorable practices.
