.Yes it can be something besides cancer.
I had a spot on my lung the found when they were checking my gall bladder.
They biopsied it. the tests said negative, but I still went and had a CT scan done every 6 months for 2 years to make sure it hadn't changed in size.
There is a bacteria mostly in the southern US that can put spots/cysts on the lungs,
Calcium deposits for a reason I forget can do it also.
If it is just one spot, today with chemo and or surgery to remove the lobe that it is in has pretty good results.....
Even though I don't know you, your in my prayers....

It could be an 'artifact". It could also be a lymph node. Does he smoke? Could be "TB"- bad but treatable.
you have every right to be scared and upset. I hope it turns out to be benign.
Have you talked to your mom or a sibling who are probably also scared.
The only advice I would give you is to wait for the doctor to complete the diagnostic workup until you become too scared to discuss it. Even some lung cancers are treatable.
And talk to your family- much better than getting advice from strangers. Good luck

It could be my father in law is in ICU right now on a respirator from pnumonia and they at first said that it looked like he had a bunch of spots on his lungs that were cancer but now they are thinking it is a bacterial infection. But he has so much fluid in his lungs they cant be sure right now they will probably have to do a biopsy to be sure but it could be something else I will pray that the Lord will work a miracle for your dad if it is God bless u and I hope all turns out well

Unfortunately with out more information about the lump, it is difficult to say if it is cancer or not. It is very unlikely to be a abscess(unless your dad is very sick) or lymphnode(they don't occur in the lung but in the mediastinum). However, if it is calcified it is less likely cancer and likely from old infection such as tuberculosis or fungal. If it is spiculated and/or larger than a cm then it is more concerning for cancer.
It is likely indeterminate and they will likely follow it over 2 years with CTs to make sure it is stable. Unless it is concerning for cancer, they usually don't biopsy it.
Good luck.

Might be a lymph node, or an abscess, or scarring, or a benign tumor (not every lump is cancer).
They will probably want to get a piece of it to see what it is.
Take things one day at a time, and deal with whatever comes up.
Best of luck to you.

I went through the same scare with my mother and even though relatives and friends tried to console me, I could not prevent myself from worrying, especially at night. Fortunately, the lump as you call it, proved benign and everyone told me that I worried over nothing.
"I did not worry over nothing, I worried over my mother," I told them.
I hope that it turns out to be only a scare and that all will be well.
God bless you and your family.

First, I'm sorry. It's understandable that you are scared.
Right now, it's important that you do not jump to conclusions.
Instead, research the possibilities, and help to comfort your father. Whether he shows it or not, he'll be quite scared and upset, and he will need you.

I went through a similiar scare with my dad not too long ago. he had a bump on his thigh bone that they thought was cancer. it turned out not to be cancer, just a calcium deposit. Hope your news turns out to be good too.
