With Anorexia Nervosa, the lack of eating is indeed the main cause of weight loss. This is because due to the lack of food and caloric intake, the individual will begin to use other sources of fuel: Carbohydrates, Fat, Muscle (in that order). Individuals with anorexia begin to use their muscle for fuel, and as such they have exhausted their carb and fat supplies. Thus, their muscles not only attrophy but also are literally eaten by the body so that the body can continue to function.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

Anorexics lose weight by extreme starvation, they look to people in Ethiopia for inspiration maybe. You can definitely lose weight by extreme starvation, not only do you lose weight, you lose water, muscle mass, sex drive and hormones.
But if it is just skipping a couple of meals here and there, then you will not lose weight. In fact, you might gain weight as your body goes into fat-storing mode.

The reason that people do not loose weight when they starve themselves is that they tend to overeat when they finally do eat. Sure, while you are starving yourself, you will lose some weight due to dehydration, but all the weight you will lose is water weight. It will come right back once you stop starving yourself. This yo-yo pattern is not healthy or productive. A balanced, healthy diet with physical activity is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.
Anorexics become and remain dangerously thin because they do not eat anything with any nutritional value. They just gradually waste away into a decrepit state. Osteoporosis, malnutrition, electrolyte imbalance, and psychological problems. Not worth the weight loss.

You already know the obvious which is caloric restriction and exercize. Because of this, their bodies will go into starvation mode, and their metabolism will begin to slow. In a sad way, it's like cannibalism---the body will feast on itself, causing muscle atrophy. Anorexia deprives the body of protein and prevents the normal metabolism of fat. In an effort to protect itself, the body slows down. Though in starvation mode, people with anorexia continue to lose weight as muscle deteriorates and they lose bone density (due to loss of bone calcium). Even when in this mode one's body will continue to have some (limited) capacity to metabolize, and will therefore burn some calories.

They don't eat anything, seriously they have big issues with food and will not consume any of it. Don't try it, its very unhealthy way of losing weight, exercise and diet are best.
