My daughter did the same thing. If the bathrooms have the automatic flush, don't use them. My daughter still gets freaked out by those. Use the sterile toilet seat protector if they supply them, if not, drape toilet paper around the seat ring and tell him that you have made it "special for him", just like home. If he just won't cooperate right now at this age, just limit his fluid intake before you have to go somewhere so he won't have pressure to suppress for the long periods of time. They can get kidney and bladder problems from supressing the need to pee. Good Luck

My son went through the same thing. After about half a year he finally will use other peoples toilets, he still is touchy with going number two if he is not at home.

Yeah, it's perfectly normal for a 3 year old to hold it that long. Just ask him if he needs to go, and if he says no, then it's "No". If he has to go bad enough, he'll use a public toilet.

We've gone with our two children to public bathrooms. Our toddler boy is just at the stage where he'll go, but he wants company.

It helps to find a clean one. I've had to ask a maintenance worker to please clean one once, at a fast food place; and he obliged.

We talk them through it gently. We've had great results. Yes, they're hesitant at first, they tend to prefer their familiar toilets. But with practice you all will get over this.

They might scare him. Be open, get him to tell you WHY he wont go.

He can hold it too...I wouldnt worry about that.
