I think the parents that let their 6 year old children walk to the bus stop alone should be ashamed of themselves. Regardless of all the weirdos there are wandering around out there, 6 years old is just way too young to be on their own like that. I think you are being a wonderful and caring parent, not overprotective. And I bet it makes your child feel good, too, knowing that you are there. I don't leave until the bus pulls away (which is usually right after my son gets on the bus). Good for you. Keep doing what you are doing.

Not at all - I'd be there, too. I walked my daughter to school through fourth grade and that is just around the corner.
My mother waited for the bus with me when i was that age and then when my sister was 6 and I was 9 she let me be the big sister but she could see the bus stop from the living room window where she stayed until we were on the bus.

Don't worry. I can't believe Americans put their kids on a bus to take them to school so young. In Australia that happens out in the country when the school is a good distance away but not everywhere else especially in the first few years. If it was me I would be taking her to school myself so you are doing fine

.....I'm still watching my 8 year old get on the bus and It pulls up right in front of the house!

and my 13 year old is 'the only one' (according to him) not allowed to cross the busy main 4 lane street!

So if they have to label me, I guess I'd Rather be over protective than underprotective!

It's a constant battle between giving them the independance that they need to mature vs. keeping them safe!

Nope you are just a concerned parent and thumbs up to you. I think you understand how this world is and you just want to make sure of the safety for your child. Good for you. Actually watching your child board a bus just makes you realize how much you love them and how much they are how much they are growing.

God no. No 6 year old should be standing at the bus stop alone!

Absolutely not, there are plenty of rotten people in this world that would not hesitate to ruin a little ones life.

I think death is the only punishment suitable for child preditors. I can't watch dateline NBC anymore, it just pisses me off.

If I can, I will drive my kids to school when they get older
