I'm looking for your thoughts here: I heard someone boasting about how humble and God fearing they were--the tone was unmistakably and arrogantly proud.

How does that translate? Does it still count? (It's similar to the question: if you donate because you want the credit and not because of sincere intentions, does it make a difference?)

The very instant you even think you have found humility, it has become pride. Just as, if you serve for others to see, it is pride. Pride is the very downfall of man.

Humility is a humorous theory, the 2nd you think of you discovered it, you lost it. some human beings get so humble, they are pleased with it. fake satisfaction is a actual theory. I trust Acts 4:12.. A fake satisfaction may well be satisfaction from a incorrect viewpoint. sort of like the self-worth theory. in case you esteem your self by God's eyes it is healthful, in case you esteem your self above that, you have a notably shaky undertaking to artwork with... Such is fake satisfaction, i think of i might call it, incorrect satisfaction and maximum suitable satisfaction. In a Christian's life each thing is Christ-based, or God-based. something that surpasses it is 2nd hand stuff. you like the actual undertaking no longer a sorry reproduction. it is one thank you to ascertain it.

If you boast of anything, the idea of humility is ultimately shattered. Whomever claimed to be so humble while popping off those remarks of themselves is a vain being.

Perhaps you should send them a link to the definition of humble.

Although, they might brag of knowing about another definition of humble that nobody knows of yet.

Billy Graham gave the best description of this very question that I have ever heard.

Early in his ministry, he still went back to his home church to visit and pray with his spiritual mother and mentor.

One day while they were up at the alter praying, Billy says that he was asking God to please keep him humble. As he said these words, he felt this huge jab of pain in his ribs.

He looked up only to hear his spiritual mother state very clearly to him, "Its Lord, please make me humble."

So, yes even Billy Graham had to learn the "painful" lesson of its not humility if you think you already have it. Humility is a lesson that we have to work at over and over again on a daily basis, for if we ever believe we have it, we have just lost it.

Really good question. No matter how humble we think we might be (for those who are proud of it and boastful anyway.), our good works of any kind are as filthy rags to God because He is totally without sin--holy. We are all sinners no matter how good we think we are or all the good we do.

I'm getting sick of this, these religious people are stuck in their own little fantasy world. The call God this all powerful being who works in mysterious way, but then I see them talking for this God. Saying God would want this and God would want that. Who are they to say what God would want, who are they to put words in God's mouth; if he were so powerful and mysterious they wouldn't know what they hell he wants. The more and more I hear these fools the more I am convinced that No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means.

God says the only thing you should boast about is him.that should make you feel good enough.having pride in oneself is useless.when you boast to god you boast to love and grace.
