I am involved as a volunteer on an excursion rail, but I carry a rules card and just took my advanced FRA Airbrake class and follow the same guidelines as any Class 1 railroad employee. But I just mark up when I want to. I call it playing on my full sized train set.

Union Pacific, Retired, early, officially.

Southern Pacific, for ever and always.

I like the idea of marking up when I like, almost as much as when I can lay-off when I like. What railroad is this, and I'll trade seniority with you today?

I don't have any FRA Rules card per se, but I'm CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules) qualified. I also have what we call the "Conrail rules", which allows us to operate several miles into the U.S. (not sure of the exact distance).

I work for CN as a Conductor, and run into the U.S. usually at least once a month. In this area (Niagara Region & Western New York), we run into Frontier Yard (CSX, Buffalo) and Seneca/South Buffalo (South Buffalo RR, Blasdell). We used to run into NS's Bison Yard, but the job running into there was abolished a few years ago.

Well I'm considering such... I volunteer restoring old trains at an operating museum, and am learning the trades... Much to learn! I think of it as a second job -- getting such qualifications would keep my future open.. And maybe even get me on the operating crew sometime as an engineer...
