i live here in florence for the last 4 years. im from the states and am studying at the university of florence. its a different world out here, different people, different culture, even different language from the regular basic italian. i mean its almost the same as the real italian but there is a little dialect in every town so florence has its own.
the river is called, the Arno, its runs along the middle of the center of florence, there arent any villas along the river, there are only apartment buildings and hotels along it. but you can buy an beautiful apartment along the river close to the ponte vecchio. all the villas are the top of the hill by piazza michealangelo, there are all the top million dollar villas. (but dont worry your missing out on anything, the villas arent like nice buildings they are simple retangular houses with 10 to 20 rooms and huge gardens. i always wish to buy a flat terrain there close to the piazza michealangelo and build my OWN nice house, not the regular boring looking retangular shapped villas everyone else has but something much more prettier
i can write you a book about florence, you can ask me anything and i m sure i could answer. you can be more specific on things and i can be sure to help you :)
oh and about orchestras, yes there are orchestras here in florence, there are often balley's and classical music concerts in the many theaters there are here in florence. one of the main theaters well known is teatro verde and teatro maggio musicale. i had heard a couple of months ago that they were planning on closing down most of the theaters for reasons of low $. supposedly the city cut down on donations and support and there was a huge strike all over florence on this issue, i dont know how it ever ended up, but i recall that issue was going around.

Hi Chickster,,,,
Ok,, I go to Florence about twice a year .. luckily i work for a company that sends me around the world,,,
There is so much to see and do there,, the people are wonderful,,,and the food is fantastic....
The Tuscany region is my for sure, favorite part of Italy.. Just to let you know, I am looking at houses nearby there also... So, you might want to keep in touch,,,,,lol
I really do not know about an orchestras off hand though,, I know that Rome has one and the Opera,,,,,, I will go out on a limb and say that chances are they do ...... It is a most unique city....
If you go anytime soon, write me and I can tell you who, what , when , where , and why about it......
Take care,,,,and good luck

I recommend that you go to your library and check out the books in their travel section. They may also have some videotapes. Another place for info is Borders, or any other bookstore. You could check with your music teachers, also. Perhaps they can answer some of your questions, or lead you in the direction. Keep practicing. Dreams do come true.
