Globally, there are more than 12 million persons associated with Jehovah's Witnesses. There are more than 6 million active Jehovah's Witnesses, who share in the public preaching work each month.
Literally 100% of these are unsalaried volunteers.
Jehovah's Witnesses have no clergy. Even congregation elders and full-time preachers receive no reimbursement whatsoever for their time or expenses. Theirs is truly a labor of love: love for God and love for neighbor. Each active Jehovah's Witness averages about ten hours of public preaching each month. The vast majority of full-time Witness ministers support themselves with part-time secular work, although some are retirees, students, or supported by family members.
At the branch offices of Jehovah's Witnesses, full-time volunteers generally have the same legal status as monks and nuns. They receive only room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses.

" On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law." (Gal. 5:22-23) This "fruitage of the spirit" is what you are beginning to take on as your study and understanding progress. That is why you look back at only 8 months and wonder how you thought that way then. What matters is that we are pleasing Jehovah by what we do and the spirit we do this work in. That is out of love and concern for all people. It is not different from seeing a neighbor's house on fire. We would do everything we could to warn them and get them to a place of safety. Today, we are aided to see a house fire no one else notices. The coming destruction of this wicked corrupt system all over the world. All the usual places of safety the world sees will do them no good. Only the Bible shows how each individual can get to safety. Though none of us can actually "save" another, we can show them the way to do so themselves. Is that not a wonderful privilege? Most will not want our invitation to learn about Jehovah. That too is fine. They have at least been warned. At times, that is the best that can be done. They have made their decision to go down with this wicked system. We go on to the next house looking for those who want to know what Jehovah requires of his people. Even when you quit for the day, there will be more houses left for another time. We never know who we will meet. That is part of the fun. Hoping we will find teachable people wanting better in life and better knowledge of God. There is nothing like the feeling you get from someone who has wanted to understand the Bible. One who might have been praying for just that and then you knock on the door. You begin to show them from their own Bibles exactly what the Bible answers to their questions. That is completely different from the guesses and theories they have been given before by friends and clergy. Instead, you turn to the Bible and show them exactly what the scriptures say about the matter. There is no other feeling like when you see that they now understand that Bible truth! Not even when you first began. As you progress, you will find you are putting on the "New personality" as described at Ephesians 4:22-24 and getting rid of that "Old personality". Those characteristics are found a few verses before. (17-19) That is why you think you have mellowed.

We follow Paul's example,
Acts 18:1-3 He was a tentmaker by trade
1 Th 2:9, 2 Th 3:8, Acts 20:34, 35 1 Co 3:11,12
These verses show that Paul supported himself and those with him, instead of becoming a burden to the congregation.
We all provide for our families.
The ministry is not a hobby, it is command to all christian. (Matt 28:18,19) Jesus said some would yield 100 fold, 60 fold, 30 fold, (Matt 13:8)
Each does what he can.
One of the identifying traits of Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion is a paid clergy class. Jesus said you received free give free.

They get their money by finding a job, which can be pretty much anything that doesn't involve carrying arms: lab technician, nurse, doctor, professor, pretty much whatever job that allows them to also preach. They don't get money for preaching.
To the guy below, that's a lie. We knock on any door that we legally can.
I wasn't shoved in the backseat when I was a kid. I got to come out and talk to people and have fun when we were free (which is most of the time when you're a kid and have few responsibilities).

The ministry is our obligation, and we live for it, we work like anyone else. Our preaching work is not paid. We love people so we preach to them, not everyone listen to Jesus , so we know everyone will not listen to us, but we carry out matt24:14. Jehovah witnesses are from all walks of life , nationality, and jobs... We're doctors , law, nurses, teachers, actors , and so forth, our ministry is first, but the scriptures tell us about work as well. We're at your doors , hoping to reach out and show ones Jehovah word and his kingdom and his son Jesus, never think we don't have secular work , it's not our main focus..Jehovah kingdom is.. Thank you

Yes , they do have jobs.
They are supposed to be dedicated to God and go door to door to preach the gospel. They do, according to the way they see it!
I have worked with Jehovah Witnesses. And they are in all professions. ( not just janitors).
They do not celebrate in Christmas ( gifts that is)! They believe in
God more then Jesus. They do not give gifts for Birthdays.( at least the ones I knew did not!
They are suppose to be pure in thoughts and actions. The girl I worked with , wore a red dress , red nylons , red shoes, I heard her tell a customer on the phone that she had red panties on also. but , just because one is bad , doesn't mean all are.
They also recite a lot of bible verses to make their point of view. Most other religions don't memorize scripture and this makes it hard for them to argue their point !

As far as I know, they have normal day jobs. I think the whole door-to-door thing is like once a week for some.

yes they do it is all volunteer work and none get paid or earn any money. It is done out of the kindness of their heart.
They hand out literature for free and bibles and books.
Most have janitorial jobs where they do work at night and go to peoples houses during the day.

They have all kinds of jobs but none that carry arms. But we are doctors, nurses, lawyers, postmen, any kind of profession that does not promote arms, or sell things like porn or cigarettes.
