c12,
There are more than three, so let me start with the most important ones.

1) They offer "Love Gift" items. If the parishioners give a certain amount, they can get this little piece of whatever for their tithe or gift. This is a vain practice. And it's not giving as Paul said

Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

This is a very personal part of being Christian, to lay up your treasures in heaven. It's a integral part of faith, to give to God as God has blessed you.

1 Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Cheapening this part of faith is a sign that Christian churches are falling away from their faith, which is their connection to God.

2) Liberalizing the Messages of God. Churches all over the USA are liberalizing their message, choosing paraphrased reflections of the scriptures, and going further in their messages from them. The focus is on family, or friends, or community, or helping the world, as if they were the Reason for Being. Which they are not.

The focus of the church is to preach the Gospel to all the world.

3) Christians who are not Christians. Ask at any time on this board, " What makes you a Christian." You will get all kinds of answers. Many of the errant answers wil be along the lines of, " A Christian is someone who does good things, and is good, and is not gay."

This is pretty sad to me. It is so far off the path that Jesus preached. It misses the point of the Beatitudes. Instead of the Beatitudes driving us to repentance, it is treated like a message to scorn others by. As if the scorners were exempt of their own necessity for repentance.

Finally, these three things that I see is wrong with the church tie into spiritual bankruptcy. They give nothing out of spiritual value, they change the message until it's focus is entirely on self or the pleasing thereof, and is full of judgement for those that don't fit into their legalistic frame, being laced with animosity for the sinner, rather than the Gospel message of Faith, Grace, and Hope in Christ.

"The Church" is not one entity unless you're talking about a specific sect or denomination such as Catholic. My church is facing financial struggles right now. Their membership has dropped slightly over the summer, so they are unable to support as many missionaries as before. We don't have enough space to teach all of the youth now attending classes (inner city kids have flooded the church in search of truth and knowledge and safety). We don't have enough transportation to bring them all to church weekly (vans). The vans are overloaded with youth each week.

the fact that being gay is being except as normal. while the bible says its wrong (i believe the bible)

the fact that there is way to much violence being made cool, while religion is getting slammed at the same time.]

the fact that people use the churches as their handout when the government either wont help them or they run out of government programs to pay to fix their problems.

but to just ask about 3, wouldn't you agree that there is actually more than 3 that churches have to face today.

Lack of faith
Pride
Sexual immorality

The list goes on, as we face the same problems as the world faces, save for damnation for our sins (I am talking about the true Church, the body of Christ, those who are truly saved). But, these three were the first three off the top of my head, the three I have found myself praying about and talking about most here of late.

problem 1- They believe in something which common sense and logic dictate to be impossible.
problem 2- A growing number of people is becoming aware of problem 1.
problem 3- Many groups are supporting/encouraging/waging war in some god's name which is really very embarrassing for any church.

1 fanaticism 2 credibility 3 truth, all this brings on misguided hypocrisy that worships something that may not be true. spirituality has no place in a physical world any more than a physical world has no place in a spiritual world, some have the audacity to think religion will hold our society together, I believe religion will die because it robs the people from the truth.

Adapting to a rapidly changing society. Few people are adherents to the Catholic Church anymore, and if they want to get their message out, they need to re-interpret it, not so much change it, but make it relevant to the modern (wo)man.

Praying to or through Mary, believing that she was sinless, and believing that church tradition is as or more authoritative than Scripture. (Self-created)

External problems would include liberalism, the spread of Islam, and the secularization of society.
