You never watch the news and see a Hindu suicide bomber or see Buddhists engaging in counter insurgency in some third world country.

Hindus and Buddhists consider the world as one family - "Vasudeva Kutumbakam". Also they believe all paths lead to God. They do not try to proselytize as some others do so agressively. They do not consider other religions inferior or that their's is the only way to heaven. It is these misguided views that destroy peace.

Even converting others from their religions is violence. Respect and regard every being - plant, animal and human as ourselves.

Destroy nature and you destroy yourself. Protect Dharma and Dharma protects you.

Let's understand other religions also before imposing our views on others and converting them by destroying their culture. This is the worst form of violence ... even worse than taking to the gun.

Buddhists (Eastern thought) have a completely different view of reality than Western minds have. Buddhism teaches that everyone has a legitimate viewpoint and all religions led to a Divine source. They also see the world not as a place to exploit for their own gain but as a whole made up of all individuals who can cooperate together. I began studying Buddhism in 2000 and had to learn to turn my entire thought processes around but once I did, the world will never look the same as before.

"One act of pure love in saving life is greater than spending the whole of one's time in religious offerings to the gods"

"He who, seeking his own happiness, punishes or kills beings who also long for happiness, will not find happiness after his death"

"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared"

"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned"

"When a man has pity on all living creatures then only is he noble"

"Full of love for all things in the world, practicing virtue, in order to benefit others, this man alone is happy"

"In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves"

These are some of our teachings. We follow them ardently and they lead us from violence. This, however, explains it best:

"Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love, this is the eternal rule"

Both religions insist on personal accountability. You are not allow to harm other living beings. Both religions are life-value based. It is too bad that more religions are not modeled in this manner. When a Hindu makes a statement along these lines, he sets HIMSELF afire in public, not others. That is total responsibility for what you are doing , what you are protesting..that is total commitment.

probably because in the hindu religion you can only be in it if you are born into it, you can not convert. and buddhism isnt a religion only a model on how to live your live. so rather than preaching how everyone needs to join them or face hell, they let people be. not a bad way to do things in my opinion!

Because their religion is based more off of a philosophy than a theology. It's a cultural thing.
