actually the type of volleyball depends what you like. there are obviously different types, so it comes down to how hard or soft you want the ball. If you just want a volleyball to play a round with, it does not really matter what type you get. But if you play vball on a team, then i would probably say tachikara.

Tachikara is the best one (to me, anyways). But it is all personal preference. Mikasa also makes a good volleyball. These are if you are talking indoor balls.
Outdoor balls - Wilson all the way. The Wilson AVP series is wonderful. Best money I ever spent on an outdoor ball.

For beach: Wilson
For Indoor: Tachikara
For Recreation: Mikasa

Well, the softest touch is a Tachikara.
The molten game ball..red,white, blue, one really wears well...takes a lot of punishment. Molten usually sponsors USA vball and junior club.
If you are looking for an indoor ball, you might want to check what ball company sponsors your league. That way you'll be practicing with ball you'll be using in match play.
If you want an outdoor ball, Wilson is a ball that holds up well under sun and sand.

the Molten red, white and blue volleyball has always been my favorite. Made to perfection. Soft, but not too soft... and still hard enough to bounce real far on solid spikes.

Theres Spalding, Wilson, Michaska, Baden really any kind is good at my high school we use wilson so what ever you wnt to get is fine
