I don't have a lot of money to spend on it (about $20) so do you have any ideas?

Write her a very special note- I mean special. Tell her how appreciated she is and how much you love her. Then pack a picnic basket and take her out to spend quality time. With any leftover money- get her something thoughtful. A toy from the dollar tree that maybe has a memory attatched to it. It may be cheap according to your wallet, but it will be priceless to let your mom know how she's affected your life. Treasure time more than anything. That's all that will matter in the end.

It entirely depends on how old your Mom is, what she likes or enjoys, etc.

My daughter burned a CD of songs that she thought I would like, that would make me feel happy, when I was feeling really down a few months ago. If nothing else, I appreciated the effort that she put into doing that just for me and it really did make me feel much, much better.

So, if your Mom likes music, then that is a great idea.

Look in her closet and pay attention to her style and color choices. Buy her a nice shirt, since winters coming up maybe you can get her some nice leather gloves for cheap to go with her shirt, or maybe a new pair of shoes. I'm sure whatever you get her she will love!

My mom never appreciates anything I get for her birthday. She always complains (as nice as she can) how it's not a good gift. So I just call her now. During our talk, she complains about my sister's gifts. My brother doesn't even talk to her anymore.

Maybe a houseplant? Silk houseplant?

Burn her a cd of her favorite songs, bake her a cake (they're not more then 5$), and just go see a movie together. She'll enjoy the time she spends with you.
