Is this a bad joke! Do really believe that The Government wants the border closed? Give me a break! We can put a missle up a cats a$$ from 1000 feet but we can't see invading illegals? Jeeps and suv's? are you kidding me? For anyone to think GWB is attempting to stop the flow is naive! It's a sad day when untrained desperate Americans have to volunteer their time to blow whistles and point like hunting dogs to help slow a non stopping tide of illegal invaders.

Yes we can close our borders -- my idea may or may not work --But I think the American people need a plan any plan--

The first thing we have to do is to secure the borders. Anything will help. The National Guard time should be paid by the Federal Government but I do not trust Congress to even fund this program. I see a those against using troops to secure the borders an excuse to say yes do it but do not fund it. Thereby they can say they support the idea but provide no means to pay for the ides so that this idea can not be performed properly. The military has equipement that is not always available to the civilian world. They are trained in the use and can provide a much better identification of people crossing the border. Once we get trained civilians to use this same equipment and Congress provide funding to buy it our border patrol could monitor more area. Then as new guards are put into service they can allow the cutback of National Guard. My feeling is for the next decade do all the two week trainings along the border to help supplement the border. As the full time people are removed enhance with the required 2 week training and support also the weekend training have some time near the border to help cover the border when the number of people watching the border is the lowest.
If you need flight training use the night flying to monitor the border at the same time as getting in required flying hours. Make the border a training ground until people respect our borders.

The fact is nobody but us will do anything about this problem, the MinuteMen even had most of the federal border patrol agents plotting against them. Bush has failed at everything, from his first quarterly loss of profits from the oil company his daddy bought him that he couldnt run because hes stupid, to the current war in Iraq, absolute failure. It makes me wonder about the people of Texas making him Gov. and the other half of this country that voted for this coward twice, once against a robot and the other a hero. So my faith in the american people and this government is clear, I have none. I would gladly quit my job, move to the border and help secure it for as long as it took as long as I was paid a good wage. This country could shut the bsouthern border down in 3 days if they wanted to, but they dont and they wont because this country is being sold out from under us by this government, corporations, and the rich. What choice is there other than a violent revolution? Very angry white male here, alot of you can thank my little girl because if it was not for her being here with me I would make killing my business, and business would be good!

If there was a ground war it would take three or four days to secure the Mexican border and 7 to 10 to close the larger gaps along the Canadian border. But the seas and the north are not 100% securable in any circumstance.

Immigration control has been used as a political hot button for the past two congresses. They talk about action but sneak away without "having time" to address the situation.

Naturalized citizens vote in greater percentages than other demographics. Since they were recent immigrants and are likely to not just sympathize, but empathize, with the illegals no politician, Democrat or republican wants to alienate that chunk of voters. While they represent a small percentage of the registered voters they are a disproportionately larger percentage of the actual voters.

The politicians are just being politicians, they say what people want to hear, but do what they planned on doing all along. In this case they will do nothing.

It's deliberate negligence, and Congress-critters are scanning the 'help wanted' pages these days because they've been too negligent on this for too long...there's lobbyists that keep trying to sell some welfare plan for Mexico on Capitol Hill, and having the border open to god-knows-who is part of that. Find THOSE people and take em to court for the hundred or so odd billion that Mexico has cost this country over the last ten years...

And the disgrace of it all is the sham things he does to bluff the American people into thinking he really cares !!! Where are the 6000 guard troops? Most haven't even arrived yet, while the ones there are opening soup cans, being secretaries to the Border Patrol...

Bush term 2 has been the worst disaster in many many administrations.

Certainly, we can. We did it once before. It's called operation wet back, and you can find and article it in the Texas online site. You've hit the nail on the head when you said that the government doesn't really want the borders closed. Neither does George Bush. In fact, they are virtually doing everything they can to make it worse.

Sure we could....move the army, marines, national guard, and airforce to the boarders. Mine the border. Shoot to kill. Put out poisoned water supplies, bear traps, and maybe some wolverines just to make it interesting.

...but is this really what we want?

it can be done. look how long it took Germany with there wall, not long. but do you seriously think bush, are republican prez is going to take money and build a wall or fence? no he needs the money for his war. we have a better chance at getting the border closed when we get a Democrat in office.
