Big Brothers, Mentoring, Tutoring, all for kids who can't keep up.
Visit old folks home, especially if you have a very good doggie.
So much needs to be done, the jobs are all but infinite.

I live in the "kuntry", and just so happens my house is right at the edge of two fire districts.
I began volunteering at one fire house as a firefighter and enjoy it so much, I volunteered for the other one in the opposite direction.
Sometimes I don't get much sleep at night, but in the end I think it's worth it. Fires are a very traumatic thing and being a firefighter is only a small aspect of the job.

Depends a lot on your skills, physical condition, amount of time you can volunteer, ability to travel some times, personality, empathy and willingness to share not only your time but your heart.
Some volunteers have to face hardship and heart wrenching conditions for weeks at a time while offering aid to others. These same volunteers may also face dangerous conditions to themselves and in some cases may even be killed.
So it is up to you to research yourself and local volunteer groups that are a fit for you.
Keep in mind: A volunteer's salary goes up by a zero for every disaster they face. $000000.oo. But oh, the warm and fuzzy you feel after is priceless.

( i gave male and female ideas. it would help to know if you are male or female)

Go to anyone of your local schools and offer to teach junior achievement. Schools have a quota to fill for it. They give you a bag that contains the materials that you have to teach. it takes about 30-40 minutes once a week. you teach the kids what cities and government or banking is about. i always do it in my daughters class since im a single mom and never fill like i spend enough time with them. you could also call your local Red Cross or library.

Volunteer fireman/EMS is very demanding. Serving food at a homeless shelter or exercising animals at the animal shelter is more typical.

Visiting the elderly in nursing homes. Most are lonely and love the sight of a younger adult come in to talk with them, read to them, play any type of musical instrument for them. I donate time playing and singing karaoke for them. Their faces light up, it's a blessing.
