If you look at countries with the most successful students, they all have standard uniforms. The U.S. educational system keeps falling further behind other countries. Students are more worried about what to wear than about their studies. Mandatory uniforms would put an end to this nonsense.

Lawgirl and benitocanadian13...if you bothered to read the entire part of the addendum at the bottom of the article, it says legislation has already been re-introduced in the house requiring the mandatory service. The original bill HR 1388 GIVE Act doesn't require mandatory service for adults and the elderly, but it does still propose mandatory service for youth--"because it teaches them about civil duty". It also has a section funding the study of a national citizen registry...which is the next step to REALID, then totalitarian authority over who they want to be citizens. For example, if they don't like your religion because it says gays are going to hell, then you're not a citizen anymore...or if you think you should be able to own something other than a .22 caliber rifle because the military and police have something better, then you're no longer a citizen. Sheeple, WAKE UP!!! Just because someone calls something fertilizer, doesn't make it any less a pile of poop. And this stuff they're shoveling on us is NOT going to help our country grow!

Yes, I believe it should be mandatory. Uniforms would end the issues caused by clothing- or lack of it. Without uniforms we have kids who bare all, have pants falling to their knees, have an opportunity to show off gang colors, beat people up to steal their clothing, beat people up because their clothing isnt "in", dress so promiscuously it disrupts the learning environment, etc etc. Uniforms are also cheaper than the "in" clothing. Wouldn't it be great if the schools also had a clothing swap so you could exchange for a bigger size the following year?

If public school kids wear uniforms, they will become accustomed to military dress and routine.

Once the No Child Left Behind kicks in, those kids will be ready to kill anyone the Zionists want - including other Americans if necessary.

Education has become nothing but one big numbers game for satisfy political desires.

being a parent of 3, I am gonna say YES.... My kids go to a school where there are rich families and poor families.. and I dont care what those teachers say.. I am sure they treat the kids dressed nicely with more respect.... and for those of you saying something about if the school provides them... Wal Mart and Target have a line of school uniform type clothing.... and all children have to have clothes for school.... the only main problem I see would be the shoes... I have a Nike foot.. and feet cant just wear a generic shoe...

Defenitely NOT! Clothing makes a statement. I has potential to make a negative statement, but it STILL makes a statement. Students will rebel and they'll wear their uniforms in a certain way to distinguish themselves from THE OTHERS. It's human nature. They'll wear jewelry, style their hair in a certain way, etc.

Changing peoples' appearances won't change their outlook on life or their lifestyle AKA the facts.

But yes it is a good idea it removes the completion between girls to look the best. It has pros and cons like many other conflicting issues

Yes that way there is no competition on who's wearing what and who can afford what Items and the focus remains just on the studies and not the Rich kids vs Poor kids.
