forgiveness and peaceful death

I don't know. I'm not a soldier. It's hard to even imagine being in their situation. I guess I would pray for safety, strength, and courage. I would pray for a peaceful solution to the war, so I wouldn't have to fight. I would pray for the safety of my fellow soldiers and innocent civilians.

Let the Angel of the Lord be encamped about me!

"The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalms 34:7-8

When I lead my Crusader armies into the Middle East, I would pray: Lord God my father I know you are with me, for you are found by those that seek you. Lord I praise you in all ways and you direct my path, lord I seek your will and not my own, I thank you lord for your mercy to allow my to live to see each day, My life is in your hands lord, and when my time comes I welcome it. For I know what awaits me. Till then lord here on earth I fight beneath your banner and for your glory, as your servant. Lord let my Crusade be but a club in your hands as I destroy these Muslim pagans. Praise and glory to your name lord Amen

Psalm 143:

LORD, hear my prayer;
in your faithfulness listen to my pleading;
answer me in your justice.

Do not enter into judgment with your servant;
before you no living being can be just.

The enemy has pursued me;
they have crushed my life to the ground.
They have left me in darkness like those long dead.

My spirit is faint within me;
my heart is dismayed.

I remember the days of old;
I ponder all your deeds;
the works of your hands I recall.

I stretch out my hands to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.
Selah

Hasten to answer me, LORD;
for my spirit fails me.
Do not hide your face from me,
lest I become like those descending to the pit.

At dawn let me hear of your kindness,
for in you I trust.
Show me the path I should walk,
for to you I entrust my life.

Rescue me, LORD,
from my foes, for in you I hope.

Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God.
May your kind spirit guide me on ground that is level.

For your name's sake, LORD, give me life;
in your justice lead me out of distress.

In your kindness put an end to my foes;
destroy all who attack me, for I am your servant.

With love in Christ.

"Please God, let me kill my enemy but don't kill me.... bless my gps so I may rendezvous with unit 67.... Protect my munitions and command them not to go off while still in my pocket... screen me from enemy snipers ... amen"

In short, they shouldn't be praying because if I herd it right thy shall not kill. They are better off not getting Gods attention so they can get away with it.
