Seems you're not inserting it far enough. You need to insert it until the body 'sucks' it in, then it will stay there. It's a natural reflex for the body to 'suck' it in but it needs to go in far enough. Hope this helps

You should only administer supps on medical advice as there is a high potential to damage the very vascular lining of the anus. Also, it is better to control constipation (if that's what the supp is for) through diet.
That being said, get your son to lay on his left hand side. When you put the supp in, it should go in straight until it's passed the anal sphincter then angle downward toward his lefthand side (that's the way the bowel is).
If he is a teenager (probably 15yo+) then put the supp in up to between your 1st and 2nd pointer finger knuckle. If younger then put it in less than that.

Unfortunately Jennander's right - at that age they're very resistant and you probably will have to use force. The method I'm familiar with is to administer the suppository during an over-the-knee spanking.

I would stop giving him a suppository and try using fruits and juice. This is more natural and effective. Some good fruits are apples, grapes, blue berries, rasins. Juices would be apple juice, prune juice mixed with grape juice for a better taste. Fruit and juice would be less damaging to his system. Using suppositories can make him dependent on them, and he will not learn when he needs to push on his own to go #2.

Push the suppository, blunt end first, past his sphincter,(if it is inserted blunt end first, it's very difficult to push it out)
and hold his buttocks together for 5 or 10 minutes.
If you do so, he can not push it out anymore.

You need to insert it past his sphincter (the muscle that "pushes" it out) Most likely you aren't putting it in past that muscle. Have him lean over something so he is almost at a 90degree angle.. lubercation always helps with it too, less irritation.

i had to do that for one of my cousins once. what we did was to lay her over my lap and put it in. she was only about three then so we told her that her but was eating the med. for her. then we kept her in that position for about 15 sec. to make sure it went in right. after that if we saw her squatting we would remind her that the med. had to be eaten that way. if it is hurting him try talking to him about something he really likes. that way it will help distract him. or position him so that he can see the TV and put it on cartoons. that way you can distract him. good luck.
