All these other folks are wrong. Do NOT go by what is on the tire. This is likely to overinflate your tires to what you need.
There is a sticker that will be placed on the door jamb of the passenger side rear door or drivers front door of your car. It will tell you the front and rear tire inflation pressures (cold) for 4 scenarios:
1) Half load under 100mph
2) Full load under 100mph
3) Half load over 100mph
4) Full load over 100mph
These stickers are required in Europe so VW continues the practice here. American cars also have them but they typically only have one set of pressures for each of the different tire sizes that model uses.
But you VW will definitely have the 4 count sticker. I would set them at full load under 100mph for daily driving, you will get the best wear and mileage this way.

Despite what car and size tire... the required air pressure for all tires is always noted on the outside wall of the tire. Clean / wash the tire and read whats written on it and the pressure will be listed as example 35 psa or other wise depending what the pressure for the trie should be.

The air pressure in what? The tires? Cars have a lot of air pressure in a lot of things. If you're talking about tires, the vehicle itself really has nothing to do with it. The recommended PSI will be listed on the outside of the tire wall written very small.

Most tire pressure on all vehicles are 35 psi in the summer and 32 psi in the winter. The tires on your passat are rated on the sidewall of the tires.

Look inside the doors. They should have the recommended pressures to run your tires.
Also, add air when tires are COLD. Tires also lose about 1 PSI per month, so you need to keep on it for constant.

It will say right on the tire itself, as each tire on the market is different, even if they are the same size.
