I just had an argument about this issue:

My opinion is that when someone has committed such a heinous crime as sexually molesting/assaulting a child under 12, THEY DO NOT DESERVE THEIR PRIVACY, the community deserves to know where this sickos live, what they look like, where they work etc, the website is called familywatchdog.us and I think is great because they provide a lot of information, I dont have a family myself, but there are a lot of children in my block, I would hate to see something so horrible happen to them.

The other side of the argument was completely the opposite, he thought that those people do deserve privacy and not have their information posted on the web, the sad thing is, that he is a parent of a 9 y/o girl.

I found his point of view odd for a father.

I would appreciate any comments on this subject

Please read the question carefully
we are not talking about a girl of 17 having sex w/ a guy of 20, we are talking about children UNDER 12

No, Because sex offenders are like addicts and they hardly have a chance of being reformed. Well at least not to the point where I would want them around children who are basically defenceless.

It depends on the type of crime that they committed. Some are violent ans some are opportunistic. The violent ones should be kept behind bars. Any other sex offenders should have a RED Tattoo across their foreheads stating what they are capable of. Their house should have a large permanent sign attached to it. Their cars should have special plates. they should have a monitor on them at all times. They should not be allowed to live within 20 miles of Women, Children and men if they attack men also.

Now this is only after they are convicted and determined that they have the risk of recommitting the sexual offence on someone else. They loose their freedom if they are a threat to others.

The people who were abused do not get to leave the past behind them. It is a life sentence that they have to endure and they are the victims.

God Bless you

Well the concensus from my house is that all sex offenders should be listed on the web, their address, what they look like and their offense. They do not deserve privacy, they gave up this right when they commited such heinous acts to begin with. By the way we are the parents of girls

I feel the use of the Sex Offender registry is misused. It should be in place for offenders of large crime against a child. To me that means any adult assulting a child under 12, and significant age differences like 21's and older with a minor. People at 15 and older as far as I am concerned know what they are doing, and young guys at are 18-20 should not be punished for life for being with these girls, unless they are commiting a violent crime. Too many people are being put on this list for minor offences, including stuff like flashing in public, and lewdness. We should not punish a boy/girl for a relationship gone wrong when he/she turns 18 because the other is mad. Its happening and these kids are paying, and will pay for the rest of their lives. We are also watching people who made mistakes or got caught up in the wrong place/time, instead of watching the real dangerous ones. Yes men/woman who are a true risk to our children should be watched... for life. Not the ones who aren't even considered grown up enough to buy alcohol. A child is a child untill they are 21. Even are government has acknowledge this, why not our laws?

I believe they need to be registered and people in their communities should know about the person. BUT, where they work? I think they are entitled to some sort of privacy.
I think as long as the commiity is aware of the situation and they all watch carefully and watch for each other that's fine. The Gvrnmt know where they live, and honestly, they need to live somewhere and everywhere has children and maybe they are just trying to get over it and get on with life?
I have arguments for both sides. But i don't totally disagree with you!

You don't deserve to know where they work. Sorry that is going too far. Yeah you should know they moved onto the block, that I can understand the arguement for. They don't deserve a sign up on their lawn saying HEY I'M A CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER or to have people outside their house announcing it. Also it depends WHAT they did. In a case like that yeah I'm all for saying it. Say though that the State says age of consent is 18 no matter what. So a 19 y/o guy has sex with a girlfriend who is 17. Well now he has convicted Statutory rape and will end up being labeled Sex offender. See the difference in the crimes? So I think we need to have it labeled WHAT they did as well.

Sex offenders should deserve no privacy. When I have children, I want to know who lives on my block, and I should have the decision to stay or move. Not be unaware of a sexual preditor next door. (actually, my neighbor actually abused his 12 year old step daughter, a few houses down from mine, freaked me out because I was about 15 at the time.)

They should be locked away behind bars for life and never be allowed to even step foot outside the prison.

Ths is coming from someone wo was molested at 5 years of age and the bastard got away with it and at 35 knocked up a 15 year old girl that he took advantage of but the problem was she misscarried and without the babies DNA they could not prove it was him who did it because she went to the hospitals several weeks after it happened.

So now me being 19 the bastard is still free roaming the streets

hurting a child under 12? as far as I a concerned if you sexually hurt any other person on this planet you have lost your privelage to privacy period!

I want to know where you go and when you wipe your nose if you live with in 5 miles of my home and I don't think you should live with in 10 miles of a school. If that makes you feel outcasted than tough.

The whole idea of that is punishment. If you drink and drive we don't give you a star on your liscence! I say suck it up and get out of my town. If you were in high school and "made a mistake" with your girlfriend, too bad. You knew better you still have to pay. wear your letter, get out and suffer.

As far as I'm concerned they should have their own reservation if not their own state!

Are you kidding me??? These sickos deserve nothing. I think that the penalties and laws in place for punishing them is to soft. The damage they cause to poor children (and even those who rape another adult) by violating their utmost privacy is ever lasting. A child WILL NEVER FULLY RECOVER FROM SUCH AN EPISODE. I really don't give a damn about their privacy. They wou;dn't have to worry about it either if they could control themselves. I say lock them all up in prison for life and let them molest each other. BUnch of perverts. THESE DEGENERATES SHOULD BE FORCED TO WEAR SIGNS THAT SAY "I CAN"T CONTROL MYSELF, I LIKE LITTLE KIDS, SO KEEP YOURS AWAY FROM ME!!"
