I am 6'4... 235, and most of my weight is in my gut, and my thighs. MALE by the way. and Im 22. I gained most of my weight right after high school and went into the retail industry... Standing around has really ruined my figure. I wanna lose 35 pounds by xmas, and am trying to come up with a routine, based mostly around riding a recumbant bike. Can someone please tell me if this is going to work? And if i should be incorporating any supplements at all?

Yes, you should be able to lose that much weight by Christmas, but you should probably make a couple of other life style changes besides the bike.

Cut out all the junk food and soda. Eat nutritiously based upon the food pyramid. Drink plenty of water. Record everything you eat and all your exercise to be certain you have a "calorie deficit" - the links below will help with that.

In addition to your biking, walk, walk, walk. Park farther away from malls and your place of work if you can. Try to do 10,000 steps a day - buy a pedometer to help you.

Begin a weight training program. Go to a gym or start at home. Invest in a sensible weight training book. Ordinary household objects can double as weights for beginners.

Best of luck with it. You can do this!!!

Sure you can do it man. Like they say exercise is good for you. Ride more than 20 minutes at least 4 times a week. Cut back on your portions that you eat. They say to eat 5 tiny meals a day. Some others say make breakfast the biggest meal, lunch smaller, and dinner tiny.

You might also consider making homemade soups with little or no starches added, and little or no meat added.

Eat celery and drink lots of water. Eat citrus.

Snack on fruit, nuts, foods with high water content, apples, etc.

Stick to that regimen of exercise. You will start to feel better soon. Muscle weighs more than fat so don't get discouraged about not losing weight. Do crunches, push ups, sit ups, everytime you feel a craving for food if you know you are not REALLY hungry. Go for 20 minute walks too. Do sprints when you feel up to it physically.
The more you walk, you will want to start running later.

Focus on strengthening your legs, stomach. You can do it.

Keep a calendar of activities to do and stick to it, even if you feel kinda cr^ppy, do a bit of something. You will make yourself proud and feel better for it.

Target weight loss of only 1 pound a week. Any more and you will gain it back double.

All the best to you and remember: YOU CAN DO IT ! Go for it.

yes, it helps u lose alot of weight, and if you live near your workplace, try riding a bike there in the morning and afterwork. Whenever you're riding your bike, try to stand up while still riding. In fact swimming helps losing weight a lot more than biking, and free style also burns fat the most. i would recommend you to swim more than biking. It's your choice. So take your time and relax. What you should eat is only veggies and baked meat(don't eat more fruits than veggies cuz they have more sugar), but if that doesn't work for you then japanese food is good for you cuz have you ever seen a fat japanese guy(except the sumo wrestlers)? yeah they're all small and short and skinny because the food they eat. and it you don't try to lose weight on a continous basis, it won't work at all. so never stop until you reach your goal. THAT IS THE REASON WHY I AM NEVER FAT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. O.Olll

Ride the bike for 30 minutes straight through 4 times a week and eat just how you have been (better if you can) and you will lose the weight, STICK TO IT TOO, thats the best thing you can do.

Riding a bike is a great way to lose weight. I wouldn't say the "d"word, but maybe you could cut out one thing that really adds up the calories...like regular soda, or butter, or something like that. Good luck, it's really doable, and committing to excercise is the hard part.

Any kind of exercise is good for your body and will help you lose weight in time, but you also must eat right just like with any weight loss plan. other wise you'll be riding that bike until the wheels fall off!

Oh yeah!! just don't quit. Push yourself a little more each week. Also, watch what you eat...by that I mean EAT!! Just watch what you eat. A daily multivitamin should be enough instead of supplements. If you feel tired , then drink a cup of coffee and swing into action.

sure, any exercise is better than no ex cerise. Do sprints, then ride, then sprint then ride etc. get your heart rate up and keep it up for a good half hour at least.

Cut back on sweets, junk food, processed food, fatty foods.

don't go more than two hours without eating something, fruits, nuts etc. cut back portions on meals so you can eat more often and still consume less than 2000 calories a day.

Sure can, and get a firm posterior while you're at it.
Just make sure the bike size and the seating position are correct or you could damage your knees.
(Most bike shops and books about biking have diagrams to determine the height as well as proper lateral position relative to the crank)

riding a bike is great cardiovascular training for your body. however, if you want to loose fat and gain muscle you need to incorporate some lifting into your workout. muscle training can be as simple as push-ups for your upper body, crunches for your core and body weight squats for your lower body. the more muscle you gain, the more fat you will loose.

also, watch what you eat...eat a balanced diet. take a multivitamin everyday.
