Unless there is a valid reason, you'd be better off with 8.0.. however, if your computer is not compatible with 8.0, ie, you have an older system with an older OS on it, then you could go to the older version. Of course, since you don't specify which Messenger, we can't be sure if you mean MSN Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, or Yahoo! Messenger. Orrr, AOL Instant Messenger.
