I take a multivitamin daily with 100% RDA of b vitamins, but I read that b vitamins help with depression -- is it healthy to take a b complex supplement as well, therefore taking the RDA to about 200%?

vit b12 does not produce adverse effects in healthy individuals when its intake from food or supplements exceeds body needs; therefore no UL has been established

oh yes. the RDA is so not accurate anyway. every human being on the planet is different in the amount of vitamins he/she needs and you most likely need the extra B's. I take B's plus a multivitamin, plus fish oil...omega 3's are good for depression as well.

I take a B supplement with my daily multivitamin (along with about a million other vitamins, in an effort to control my bipolar disorder), and I've been fine. However, you should definitely ask your doctor, as he/she knows your health needs far better than a few people on the internet.

some of the B's are useful for increasing the metabolism. an herb usefull for sort-of depression is st. john's wort. just remember that if a little is good for you doesn't mean that a lot is better.
