What brand would you recommend that is not too expensive but still tastes great? I never drink vodka straight, just so you know.

Smirnoff won a NYtimes blind taste test, beating out vodka twice its price.

Don't be fooled by marketing of flashy bottles, the majority of vodka is the same, any serious taste difference is in your head and any small taste difference is based on the water they used.

Depending on what you are mixing with. The flavored "sky" and "smirnoff" vodkas aren't too bad and are pretty cheap if you are going for something fruity. If you are making martinis or bloody mary's I would reccomend Luksosawa an actual POTATO vodka (most potato vodkas are in the premium price range).

The final option if you are really trying to be frugal is to purchase a water filter (brita, pur, etc...) and buy the cheapest stuff you can find and run it throught the filter pulling out the impurities and drastically improving the flavor as well as reducing the chance of a hangover.

Rain-Made from organic white corn - so a little sweet, smooth and about $18-20 bottle.Cheaper than that fashion victim vodka. Not made in a ethanol refinery like the blue stuff. There are also a lot of other good vodkas out there depending on your location. Go to a bar and try some side by side at room temperature- best way to compare.

This isn't going to help much, because I like vodka water, therefore the vodka is very important.
BAD
Smirnoff slightly diesel flavour
Stolichnaya tastes like cork
AVERAGE
Finlandia bland
Rain organic tasty but over-priced I think its the organic label
GOOD
Grey goose smooth lemony hints
Absolute for the price good enough

Enough for now if price is your ruler and you are mixing it go with Absolute, but try vodka water with a splash or bar lime (juice)
very tasty and refreshing as you learn about vodka you will start to experience their unique flavours. Only one or two a day because too much vodka anaesthetizes your taste buds.

Don't know where you are?, Down here in New Zealand we've got a great drop called 42Below, Plain, Honey, Kiwifruit and Passionfruit. If anybody out there gets the chance to try them, they're the s**t. Otherwise the range of "Three Olives" is the best.

Give Vodka-O a try.. It is a bit harder to get your hands on as it's only sold at select liquor stores. Vodka-O derives its name from the organic ingredients. Less harsh than other vodkas. Always up to personal choice though =)

Cheers ~!~

I would just go to the store, and see what fits your budget, but pay attention to how much alcohol you get, and if you're buying a flavor, or not. You'll get what you pay for. Just make sure it's 80 proof. Smirnoff sells a blue-label bottle, that's 100 proof. Since you don't drink it straight, you might like it.
