Are the dogs well trained and well socialized? Are they well mannered? Are they use to babies and small children? Your answers to these questions wil ltell you if the dogs will be "safe" to have around your babies/kids and if the dogs would be happy around them as well. If your answers to the questions are yes, then you will need to take steps to get them use to the idea of having babies in the house. I would recommend enlisting the aid of a good trainer/behaviorist to help you with this. If the answer to any of the questions is no then I would recommend looking into rehoming at least some of them into good, loving homes with people who would appreciate them and who would allow you to visit them. If there is any doubt at all no matter how small, you simply can't take a chance of injury or worse to your human kids.

Why not have a certified experienced canine behaviorist (someone with a PhD in animal behavior, not just some moron who once watched the Dog Whisperer and decided he can do that too) come out for a home visit to evaluate your dogs? If they get a good evaluation, maybe that will put your wife's mind at ease. The behaviorist can also give you tips for introducing dogs to new babies and will certainly tell you what I'm about to tell you:

It doesn't matter what breed and what the temperment of the dog is, no dog and no child should be left together without very close supervision. I'd say the same thing about a pomeranian or a Newfoundland or my own coonhound. Kids and dogs are both never 100% predictable and combining them without a very careful eye on the situation can end very badly for both the kid and the dog.

Probably some of your dogs will react well to the babies while others might not. With that many dogs, I would expect there is a hierarchy and that there is some jealousy between them already. You know their personalities and only you can know what they might or might not do. I had a dob mix when I had my first child. He never cared one way or the other. He was around for my other daughter being born, too, as was another dog we had, a rottie/lab mix. Neither of them were that worried about it. If the kids bothered them, they'd get up and leave. Of course, you have to teach your children to respect animals. It is unfair to expect an animal to put up with unlimited harassment and besides, they won't. If I were you, judging by the fact that they are already older dogs (I'm assuming) not raised with kids, you might have to ask yourself some hard questions. In the end, it's not worth it.

Have your dogs been around any children? Toddlers? Put them in a situation with a young child and see how they react. Is your wife concerned because of the breed of dogs or just the thought of your baby and dogs? We have a toddler and a pitbull and he is great. You should never leave any dog unsupervised with a child no matter how well you think you know them. Sometimes the dogs will accidentally push or knock down a little one. What we did was try to socialize our pit with small children as much as possible its different for a dog hasn't been around a screaming, yelling, pulling on their tail baby. The breeds you have can be wonderful with children being larger they have a higher tolerance for pain (the pulling, falling on top of etc.) Always teach your children when to respect and be gentle with all animals. Our toddler climbs on our pit and he just gives her a "why" look over his shoulder. Evaluate your dogs temperament and then make a decision. A lot of people have large dogs and then get pregnant and it all works out great.

Until the dogs get used to the baby, don't ever leave them alone together. Even then, a dog (of any breed) should not be left alone without supervision. Their big dogs, they could just be playing and not mean anything by it. Also, babies sometime automatically just grab, and the dog may not understand that either. I don't think this has nothing to do with the breed. The breeds are not bad, its how their raised that makes a dog mean.

I say this with the utmost respect. If your wife thinks this then you should get rid of your dogs, why? because obviously she does not feel the same about them and really trusts them anyway. I own one and have 3 kids, (pit) I would never think to get rid of a dog because I am having children. If they are properly raised then there is nothing to worry about. But one has to wonder if that is the case or if your wife is just buying into the media when if she lives with them she would even entertain the thought.

Why risk it?
Which are more important to you?
Should the dogs harm the children you could face legal action by the state.
Besides which 8 dogs is a bit much don't you think? You gotta be nuts!!!!!

This juvenile troll does`nt own any dogs and I don`t think any woman would have his silly *** much less any children. What is a "pitt"? "rottwilers"? Give it a break, you`ve already proved you`re a moron.

I had 2 Rotties when I had my son. Never had a problem.
My dogs were big babies and were use to my neices and nephews already.
I got them use to the baby room and all the different smells in there. When I brought my son home, and he cried, they just got up and moved to a different room.
I would never leave any dog and a baby unattended though.

EIGHT dogs! Dont chance it!! One mistake will be way too costly and your wife already has her mind made up,, there will be no peace in your house if you keep the dogs, find them other suitable homes till the kids are teenagers and you want them eaten alive.
