dont want to spend more than 17,000. Its all gonna be cash.
I was thinking about a 2004-2005 Nissan Altima. They look alright and there is alot of room. But if you had that much cash what would you buy?

For that money definately look into the Scion tC - has alot of bang for the buck, loaded with standard equipment (including a panaramic moon roof) and has plenty of rear leg room for a male adult - tho the rear cargo area is a bit cramped, but not terrible, and you get Toyota dependability. Engine is a 2.4l with 160 hp, so has some giddy-up. I haven't had any complaints with either of mine, nor heard any from other tC owners. You can even get a brand new 2006 for that money! Go to scion.com, build one with no accessories and see what your price is ($16,940 in my area).

Myself? I would buy a Ford Focus Wagon. Much better fuel economy than an Altima... AND Room to Haul Stuff easily when SHOPPING!... Or Traveling! 17K will buy a NEW Focus Wagon with money left to pay the taxes. The Focus was on Car and Driver Magazines 10 best list for 5 years! They are very comfortable, reliable, and efficient. If you get the Manual transmission they get 37 MPG on the Highway!

I am currently driving a 98 Ford Escort Wagon that has been VERY reliable and I average over 36 mpg in it. It has 138,000 miles on it now and has only needed 3 repairs plus normal maintenance since new. The Ford Focus Wagon is what I will most likely replace my Escort with when it eventually dies... but that could be a LONG time. Fords Really LAST!

If you dont want to drive a Wagon/5-door... The New FUSION from Ford is Really cool. My neighbor has one and they really like it.

I have a 2002 Nissan altima with all the options, the new ones (if you wanna buy brand new are like $30k buddy. If you wanna pay cash for the whole thing and get the best deal- get a scion. The cute coups are like $14 and they have the longest warranty. I have worked for JAguar, volvo, lexus, and mitsubishi. I wouldn't buy anything but a toyota or lexus (same) or nissan ever again... Jags are great but new ones are made by ford and SUCK... dude's car is still so great cus it was made back when the cars were still good. Why don't you get a $30k car and pay half in cash, so you build up your credit with the loan even tho you didnt need it, you have a fantastic car, and when you trade it in it'll still have lots of value... good luck! I wish I was in your position!!

Jag XJ6. The XJ8 engine still has problems. The 6 cyl. is time-tested and proved. Plenty of power, room and 25 mpg on the road, 20 town driving. It has a 4 speed auto transmission plus overdrive that kicks in at 50 MPH. But, it does require premium (92 or better) fuel. Incredibly strong and reliable.

With 17g's I would look into something newer. Take a look at the page below and they have a lot of newer cars that are under 17g's. I wouldnt go with a used one, unless you do a carfax histroy report. They have lots of cars like the malibu, Pontiac G6, Corolla (Real Nice), Focus, Mazda3. Those are some of the ones listed in the website but I dont know about the amount of rooms in the back but I do know the 06 civics dont have a lot of room in the back. If i was you, I would buy new. 04-05 Altima look nice but i bet you an 07 corolla would look better in your driveway. That is my best choice if it was me, 07 Malibu or 07 Corolla. Good Luck

Eh, I don't like Nissans. I would probably buy an '03 Acura RSX, Toyota or a Civic or something. Something reliable, I wouldn't go for a Dodge, Chrysler, or Mistubishi personally.
