*B/R*Toni... obviously you just wanted two points..Hey if you can't understand the question THICKO don't try to answer it!
SABRINA... very good answer as mentioned, I'm in England...It's all a nice idea unfortunatley it's not all free. Most of us poor suckers have to pay for those who can't afford to.
This leaves the problem of should those who can pay for those who can't!!!
Given the options in England (unfortunatley this isn't a choice) I would opt out of the NHS and pay to "go private"

I see some of these answers are given by people who don't live near a lot of illegal immigrants. The asker is correct: They ARE given benefits they have not paid anything into, such as welfare, medicaid, food stamps and TANF (Temporary Aid For Needy Families). And they haven't paid into them because they don't pay taxes. They CAN'T pay taxes because they are illegal. Employers are just as guilty here; they would rather pay undocumented illegal immigrants to work cheaper than Americans who will not. Plus, they have to declare no taxes on that money because it is mostly under the table. So the illegal and the company both win. Add to that the false ID problem. They just busted a big operation of guys selling false documents to people. It was run by, of course, Hispanics. So to answer your question, they are given benefits because this country is so worried about descrimination that they will give anything to anyone out of fear of political retribution. That and the regulations are more relaxed for them. Insane isn't it?

It is because of a conflict between the humanitarian and the practicalist in each of us.

I have a real problem with illegal immigrants coming into this country and consuming millions of dollars in health care services, attending our already over-crowded public schools, and receiving public assistance of any kind. There are many Americans with insufficient income and do not receive food stamps, health care, or cash assistance. Even those of us who make adequate income are stung by this. I work hard and pay plenty of taxes, yet I am stuck paying more for health insurance premiums each month than the cost of my car payment and insurance combined. My children don't receive any special benefits, and if I have no money a doctor can refuse to treat them except in extreme emergencies. I was unemployed last year and still could not get my children on the state health plan. My daughter has asthma and seizures, and my son has weight and nutrition problems. I spent almost $2000 out of pocket in one month for health care for my babies because we had no health coverage!

On the other hand, I thank God that I have the means to support my family. And I feel bad for those who do not have the same comfort. I don't think it's the right thing to do to allow children to go hungry or without basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, or medical care. So what do we do?

I think a major step in solving this problem is going to be to develop firm immigration laws and strictly enforce them. Once we allow people into this country we must treat them like human beings. Would you let a stranger into your home and them stand watching them bleed to death on your living room floor? Of course not! So how can we let strangers across our borders and then stand by and watch them die? It's not right.

But if we stop letting them in by the thousands upon thousands then we won't have to take ownership for their problems. Those who want to come in should be required to follow the law in order to do so. Then once they are here they should have a waiting period before they are eligible for any public assistance. They should not be allowed to work tax-free under the table and not pay taxes. Those who do not comply should be deported. If they know this before they get here I'll bet a lot of them wouldn't come in the first place.

Unfortunately, another problem illegal immigration is contributing to is racism. Many Latino and Hispanic immigrants who come here legally and contribute to the American economy have been wrongly stereotyped and lumped into the same category as their illegal counterparts. Therefore there has been a rift between the Latino community and the rest of Americans that seems aloof if not stand-offish. The same thing happened in the Black community during and after the Civil Rights era. Blacks who became successful were hated by their own kind who envied their success. This perpetuated Black-on-Black racism. If we are not careful I fear we will start to see the same thing happen in the Latino community. Or worse yet, the legals and the illegals will unite and hate the rest of Americans.

This issue is about politics and economics. It is not about race, but rather about running our country efficiently and productively to meet the needs of all citizens. Those who are not citizens should not be entitled to consume the rights of citizens.

First of all, immigrants are people who are living in the country lawfully. They work here and pay taxes, so are entitled to the benefits of any citizen.

Oh, you're asking about people here illegally? I would guess the law of the land allows it.

Why am I paying for schools when I have no children? Why am I paying to fix roads I will never drive on? Why are my taxes going to support a war I don't support? Why am I paying for the bailout of Enron?

Why are people so quick to jump in and answer this question when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about. No one even asked the nationality of the person asking the question. Do you all just ignorantly assume that every country has the same laws?

Only in America. In European countries they have free health care to all citizens. But you have to be a ctitizen to recieve it. Think about it. Would this happen in any country in the world besides ours? Nope. And we supposively are in control cause we are a democracy. We can't change ****. This won't stop it's gonna get worse. Americas going down.

I don't know for sure why immigrants are given small business loans, that they never pay off. Let an American try and get one and see how fast the door is slammed in your face. It is RIDICULOUS. America, WAKE UP!!!

If current trends continue, they're going to be left with no option but to drag it back where they came from, and go take care of business the right way...provide for themselves...much could be learned from that in our own country...

I think it is because they are humans, I think that this is the reason we need to really follow immigration laws, because people taht are here illegally cost taxpayers millions each year, if people would just follow the laws, I bet that money might go for something else good..hopefully education..haha yeah right huh.
