Assuming that the pinched nerve is being caused by a bulging or herniated disc, this can often be resolved with physical therapy. However, I recommend you see a therapist who has been trained in the McKenzie method of treatment. This is the most researched treatment approach and has been show to be as effective, if not more effective than manipulative therapy (ie, chiropractic care). The advantage of PT over chiropractic care is that the focus is on educating you about what causes your conditon, how to observe for signs and symptoms and how to correct it yourself. The goal of treatment is independence. Treatments are hands off unless it is absolutely necessary. That makes you less dependent on the provider...ie, when you leave the clinic, the therapist does not go home with you, therefore you need to learn how to correct the problem. Most people require 6-8 visits until pain-free (more or less depending on the person); and in the end, YOU will learn what to do if the problem ever comes back in the future. This is in contrast to chiropractic care which makes you dependent on the D.C. for lifelong management.

I dont know anything that will cure it but there is a patch that will alleviate the pain somewhat. It is called Salonpas and I get it from Walmart for a couple of dollars. Great stuff!

You should consider seeing a chiropractor to adjust your back for you. Otherwise I would recommend gentle stretching at least twice a day and that might relax your back enough for the vertebrae to pop back to where they should be - off your nerve!!!
