I've visited an old friend in jail before, and they do make you sign your name and answer a few questions. But there's two reasons why I don't think you have much to worry about.
1. It's a traffic violation, not a criminal charge.
2. They are more concerned with knowing who you are when you visit in case you are connected to the crime(s) your friend committed.
Personally I think you should just pay the fine and get it over with, sounds like it would be a nice amount of stress off your back.

Some departments do run the name of visitors to the jail. It's amazing how many people with outstanding warrants will come to visit someone in jail, or to bail someone out. That being said, since your speeding ticket was eight years ago, and you've been arrested since then, most likely you don't have an outstanding warrant. I would think that's something the arresting officer would've mentioned to you.

Depends on what state you're in, I know in Pima County (Tucson,Az) they do run your name to see If you have any wants or warrants and if so they will arrest you, depending on the warrant if its a felony yes, misdemeanor, No they'll just tell you to take care of it. After 8 years they probably have dropped it. File 13! Good Luck
