Problems and benifits- problems you can possibly run into are the crown not fitted properly causing food and debris to get caught under the crown causing gum disease. crown may come off while eating or whatever. Never try to glue or cement the crown in without seeing a dentist first. benefits are it creates stability to a tooth that has a large filling in it preventing the tooth from being cracked, fractured or even broken. can be matched with the color of your other teeth instead of a giant silver filling shining at people. some say that in the back teeth you cannot see it. Ever saw inside of someone's mouth while they laghed out loud? Point being as a dental assistant I have seen the benefits of crowns out weigh the problems of crowns. They are pricey but well worth it.

Think twice about a crown. If your tooth can handle being filled again, you might want to consider it. Only have a crown if your tooth walls are too thin to take being filled. What they do with a crown is grind your tooth to a nub. They do a root canal and then after a little while, you'll get your porcelin cover up. It's a better option than having a tooth pulled. You need to remeber to make sure you keep the crowned tooth cleaned at the gum line.

Go to website ioamt.com and you'll find loads of info re the reasons why you should not have a crown. I have two and mercury fillings and root canals. However if I knew before what I know now as a result of reading this website I would never have had them. The conclusion I have come to is that the only safe treatment is extraction with proper cavity cleansing, everything else causes chronic diseases in the long term. The news is bleak but very easy to understand and believe. Dentists dont tell you this because it would put them out of business of course.

If crowns are made properly, you should not have any problems with it. However, you are still responsible for taking care of it like you do all your other teeth. Brush along the gumline of the crown and remember to floss. Do not chew ice or anything else incredibly crunchy. It can break the porcelain on the crown. As long as you take care of them, they will last many many years.
