You're the only one who knows when you're ready to get a new puppy. If you want a puppy, then get one.

It isn't up to any of us to determine if you should get a new puppy and or to determine which puppy would be right or wrong for you. I too just lost a purebred Chow less than a month ago for which I'll post a link to a few videos of her last few months that I had to share with her.
You need to know the temperament of your existing dog and how he or she will relate to being introduced to a new dog. If your dog tends to be an Alpha type personality then you'll have a greater chance of having friction between the two of them no matter what breed of new dog that you acquire. You'll also need to research the temperament and personality of the various breeds that you have an interest in as some dogs may not mix well with an already established dog and also keeping in mind if there are small children or a lot of activity in or around the pets domain.
You can ask and you'll receive a lot of comments as to the breed or if in fact you should take the commitment to taking ownership of a new pet but you really need to examine your own lifestyle, your own surroundings and if you can in fact take on the responsibility of owning a new puppy or adopted senior dog.
I'm sorry to hear of your dogs passing and wish you well in the decision that you'll have to make.

Only you can decide if you are ready to get another dog. It is a very personal choice. I just lost my beautiful Dane girl 2 months ago. I missed her so much and still do.My other Dane missed her too.The void that was left behind was terrible. I didn't feel ready for another dog though, however along came a Dane puppy who captured my heart..now I am the owner of a 10.5 week old fawn Dane puppy. It helps with the void and I love him, but it doesn't replace my Chey. Nothing can replace your lost dog in your heart, but your heart has room for the right dog when it comes along. Cherish the memories of your baby. They will help you cope with your loss.
Don't dwell on what kind, simply let the right dog no matter breed or mix capture your heart again.
My sympathies are with you.

Do you have the time to spend with a new puppy to train it? Will your LabX tolerate a new puppy jumping and pulling at him/her? Are you able to pay for shots, neuter/spaying and vet bills? Puppy food and toys?
I personally don't think I would get a puppy only 3 days after my dog died. Sounds like you may be trying to replace your ChowX..and that will never happen.
Sorry about your dog.

Chose carefully. Are away from home alot. If you are do not get a Jack Russell. Are you in an apartment or a house with a yard to run in. If your lab mix tends to play a little rough, stay away from chihuahuas or anything small that could get hurt. Another lab or lab mix would be great, had one once, smartest dog i ever had.

If you feel like you and your lab mix are ready to accept another puppy into the family - go ahead a get yourself one. I would suggest that you go to a shelter or an animal rescue and adopt a new puppy. There are so many out there that need good homes.
Go to petfinder.com - That's where I found my puppy and we are so happy with her.

You should get a Lab. Not only for you but for your other dog. Your lab misses your Chow just as much as you do.

If you want a new puppy and the lab is going to be agreeable why shouldn't you get one??? I'm surprised you want one so early because most people don't but I would if it was my situation.

Go pick one up from a shelter. Too many animals are put to sleep needlessly.
Personally I think Welsh Corgies are cute.
