Navel oranges are easy to spot in your produce aisle-they're the ones with the button formation opposite the stem end. A juicy fleshed orange having a thicker skin, which is generally easy to peel, with flesh that is juicy and sweet. The Naval orange makes a good fruit for juice or for snacking and fruit salads.

Valencia oranges are small to medium sized, and they may have a few seeds. They are usually thin-skinned. The Valencia orange contains a great amount of juice and because of its thin skin it is easy to squeeze. It is in season for most of the year.

Navel oranges are actually a kind of mutant, they are really a "double orange" with one little one actually included inside the big one. The "navel" is the place in the skin of the big one where the little one peeps through. The advantage of navel oranges is all the seeds (when there are any, often they're completely seedless) are in the little orange, so this makes navel oranges very convenient to eat out of hand or divide into sections to put into something else. As long as you avoid the "navel" part, there won't be any seeds. It's interesting to know that every navel orange tree is actually grown from a cutting of the first (and only) tree that was found in Brazil. Two were brought to Riverside, California in 1870 and all the navel orange trees in the US come from those two trees. One of those trees is still alive and can be seen in Riverside.

Valencias don't have the mutation, so they may have seeds throughout. They're mostly used for juice, since that way the seeds don't get in the way. If the seeds don't bother you, then they make a fine eating orange. Lots of people (including me) think the Valencias have a nicer taste than a navel.

They are different varieties.
The Valencia orange is primarily used as a juice orange. The juice is concentrated and flavorful.

Navel oranges are larger and tend to be used as pieces in salads and desserts. Navel varieties have been cultivated to minimize the size and number of seeds.

i will disagree somewhat with Jsanthara - I actual have a fifty 300 and sixty 5 days previous Valencia orange tree in my lower back backyard right here in Silicon Valley and that i can inform you the fruit is scrumptious and anybody says it has the perfect OJ they have ever tasted. I cook dinner with them plenty too. The zest is superb thrown on salads or meats and that i exploit the juice as a seasoning, drizzling it on almost each and every thing. A squeeze over some thing on the final minute provides a great style and aroma.

navel is the ony kind of orange there is and the best if you ask me lol the ither kind has seed and not so good lol

Navel are supposed to be the only seedless kind.
