Wow, lucky girl. Listen, I will tell you, but if things don't work out, will you call me? Great. Ok, here is the right answer: baking a cake is not that hard. Buy a good quality cake mix (Duncan Hines, etc), some eggs and milk, and the frosting. Don't forget the candles. Go for chocolate cake unless you know she likes another kind. Bye these little squeeze bottles of icing to write Happy Birthday and her name. Do not use any of those clunky number candles, but you could stick on any little signs that would be special to her (does she like frogs, or kittens, or something, etc). Keep it simple. She will love you for it. And like I say, so will I if she should accidentally get hit by a falling meteor or something sad like that.

Go to the store, buy a cake mix. Make a cake, just to test it out. Let cool and put frosting on it. Attmept not to burn it. Taste test. If all goes well, MAKE HER A CAKE!!! You making a cake will be much sweeter than you buying her a cake. Anyone with the money can buy a cake. If you made the cake, she'll appreciate it much more!
PS Find out her favorite flavor of cake AND frosting. Good luck! Also, do not get destracted when cooking, and set a timer. Read ALL directions before starting to cook. THEN cook. Otherwise you'll forget something (it happens to the best of us.).

buy her a cake and take it to the bakery have them airbrush your favorite picture of you two or her on it,this is thoughtful and sweet if you never made a cake, she might be stuck eating some crappy cake so she wont hurt your feelings and you might feel bad cause your present really sucked, I am not trying to be mean, please dont take it the wrong way, but I used to bake almost everyday, I can make a cake from just about any fruit including the flavored icing from scratch and my neighbors who cooked and my neighbors or friends who cooked regularly or made cakes occassionally could make cakes, but ended making mistakes more often than I or their cakes were not always as good and this is just because I made those very mistakes so many times from my frequent baking experience I learned not to do simple things or to do simple things to avoid these pitfalls. you might make it a do just fine, but if it doesnt turn out are you willing or do you have the time to keep baking it until you get it right?

Well I think that you should make the cake. If you know that there is no way that the cake will taste good then buy one. You could always make a horrible cake and show it to her and tell her that you are sorry it didn't turn out so great and then suprise her with a pretty cake from the store. If she isn't happy then that will just plain suck for you man.

As long as it doesn't taste like crap a home made cake is good. What you should do is get a duncan heinz cake mix, butter recipe golden is great. Those are really simple to make. You should use 2 round cake pans for one mix so you can put her favorite fruit or more icing in the middle. Even if it did wind up tasting like crap I would be very happy and feel special if someone took the extra effort to make me a cake.

I think I would appreciate the one you made more than a pretty store bought cake. Some women may think you are trying to take the cheap way out so in the card I would put a note or
little coupon that says "I tried my best if it's not good than this coupon entitles you to one free "store bought" cake."
This way she knows it's from your heart and that you're not just being cheap! = )
Good luck, I'm sure she'll love whatever you make or give her.

Boys can answer this one too. We love cake also.
I'd go for the "hand-made" cakes. If you have no time to bake your own.. the ONLY type of cake to buy a friend is the Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake. She will love you forever.

I would prefer to be taken out to a fancy restaurant, enjoy a 5-course meal complete with dessert - that's the very least my husband would do, along with many gifts.
And my husband is also a pastry chef so I can get gourmet desserts any time I wish.
Make a homemade cake - but since it sounds like you have no skills at it, buy a store bought one in case it's disgusting.

Oh you should definitely make one!!! You're so sweet to want to do that. Of course, you can compromise and buy an easy cake mix. Just don't lie and say you made it from flour and water, LOL! She'll love it. Make sure to get one of those icing tubes, and write a nice message on it. (Don't do anything "cute" like calling her an old lady or anything, LOL. make it nice.)
Oh by the way... I just read a great idea for tinting/flavoring cake frosting... just get a packet of Kool-Aid (no sugar added) and mix some in with a jar of white frosting. Yummy!

women love that crap
make a real cake
go to the store and get a betty crocker cake mix
read the directions on the back to see what you need in addition to the mix
get it
go home and bake away
the instructions are so easy
i would suggest you go to a walmart super center and then you can get the baking pans, bowls, measuring cup and spoons in addition to the cake mix.
if nothing else go to the senior center and get those ladies to help you.
they would love to have the company and help with the cake.
