Nothing will make him leave except a for him to fall in love with a woman who thinks it's ignorant to live at home at 24 and have no direction. What woman like that would have him?

It's up to your parents to put him out or unfortunately you will have to do like I did and move out yourself.

Good luck with the nasty big brother.

If you own the house, or if you rent and you are the only one on the lease agreement, and you are the adult in charge, you can have him legally removed. If you don't want to go that far and hurt your relationship with your brother, then make him sign an agreement in order to be able to stay there. In the agreement, have him sign it, with a witness, and you sign it too, and give him a copy of it. Put in the agreement that as long as he is not in school or college then you expect him to pay rent and his share of the utilities. He should also be given a list of chores that would give him some of the responsibilities of running the household. It does sound to me like he does not respect you, and that possibly no one has set any boundaries for him as an adult. Setting the boundaries is one thing, and making him stick to them is another. Set aside some time for the two of you to get together and discuss your relationship and let him know what you expect from him, and ask him what he expects from you. Do this with cell phones turned off, TV off, no friends over, and no drinking. Have a serious conversation. If he is not open to any of these suggestions, then I would have him removed from my house, along with any of his stuff, and get the keys from him. He needs to be held responsible as an adult, but show him you can be responsible too, and hold him accountable. Set the rules, make him walk the line, or have him removed legally.

Who has legal responsibility for the residence? If he is an owner or tenant of record, you're stuck. If you are the owner or tenant of record, give him a written eviction notice; if he doesn't move voluntarily, you can get a court order and the cops will throw him out. If parents or other third parties are the owner or tenant of record, talk to them -- the ball will be in their court. In any case, you want to be someplace that he isn't -- and it might be necessary for you to move to pull it off, depending on the legalities.

That sucks. I went through the same sit with my brother. The best thing you can do it to put in the effort and make him get a new job. Print him off fake resumes if you have to.

Had it been just anyone, I would have asked you to kick that person out. But with your brother...i guess you've some responsibilities...to make his life better...to make your life better with him.....

communication.....it's the key....talk to him....let him know that it is not just because you dont like his habits but also because you care....can you do it???
