Try one of those Icy Hot patches...they work really well. Stay off your feet if at all possible, and if gets worse, see a doctor immediately. You can take Tylenol and Motrin at the same time...try 2 Tylenol and 4 Motrin, that should help. OR, take some Aleve, it's an anti-inflammatory.
If the pain worsens or shoots down your leg, it's a sign of a herniated disc or pinched nerve. If it's a herniated disc, you should seek treatment right away because the pain will only worsen.
Good luck!

with the history of kidney pain, you maybe should check with your doc? i had a kidney stone once and it started out just like my lower back pain sometimes is, but then it got worse and worse.
anyway, if it's back-related, again it probably depends on what exactly is causing it. again ask the doc. however, i've read that most back pain can be prevented or improved by strengthening your abs. also stretching and yoga helps. rest is good if the pain is very acute, but in general, exercising regularly helps a lot. my chirpractor told me that regular walking is very good for long-term prevention.
good luck

Take a couple of Aleve..when the pain lets up a bit try laying on your back and stretching as far as you can...with your back arched a bit...relax... bring your knees to your chest and hold...straighten out...bring one leg up and hold it while the other is straight....put it down and do the same with the other leg. Repeat. Don't push more than you can do...I have lived with constant, excruciating back pain for years and this helps sometimes.
A trip to get a professional massage helps a lot and even a trip to the chiropractor. Good Luck.

You might be getting a kidney infection drink lots of water or cranberry juice. If it continues to keep hurting, I'd make arrangements to go see your doctor. You can also take some pain relievers (Tylenol) to dull the pain. Rest is also very important.

The only way I have been able to relieve my back pain is to see the doctor and get some painkillers or muscle relaxers or sometimes both. You could do an extended stretch session, that might do the trick.

I am so sorry, I suffer from back pain as well and it is NOT fun. Try seeing a chiropractor. Also, you need to exercise everyday, especially since back problems run in your family. If you go to the Chiropractor ask for exercises that will help to strengthen your core muscles. I also take Valerian Root (http://www.drweil.com/u/Article/H10/) it is used to help anxiety, but it also helps to relax muscles. It has a distinct stench to it though, but it won't make you smell if you use it. My Chiropractor also told me about Valerian Root.
Good Luck!!
Sorry, that link won't work. go to the home page for that site at http://www.drweil.com/u/Home/index.html and do a search on Valerian Root

Rub some Bengay or Cold Ice on it. Also, keep your back as straight as possible and bend at the knees instead of using your back to pick up things.
