1.bath alone without constant supervision?

2.wash themselves (hands, bottoms, hair) well enough that a parent doesnt need to do it too to make sure the child is clean?

3.brush their teeth well without help?

4.walk two blocks to school alone or with a friend their age?

I am curious as to peoples opinions and/or experiences with these things. Thanks!

I started at 4 with an ear open constantly and many trips too the bath to check on them. If it was one child i would say 5 and never if they are tired
2. Excluding hair i think 3. They are sitting in the bath for a while so most parts will get clean by themselves. For hair. boys 6 girls welll thats a hard one. My daughter is 7 and i am nowhere near letting her do it. She has long curly, easily knotty hair. She washes it and rinses but after the conditioner is in I get the knots out then she rinses it
3. dentists recommend 8 though by 7 they can do it and you just give it a once over when they are done (this is what the dentist told me last week)
4. I think 21 sounds good but in reality maybe 10

I think age 6-7, depending on their maturity level is ok for bathing alone. A child should be taught from age 18 months-2 years old how to start cleaning themselves in the bathtub, so about the same age as bathing alone. A child should be able to brush their own teeth by age 3 1/2-4. I was a nanny for a 3 (almost 4)year-old and she could brush her own teeth. With all the pedophiles out there it is not safe at any age to let a child walk to school alone. With a friend I would say age 8-10.

Bathing alone is a decision only the parent can make. Children develop at different ages and can handle themselves differently despite their youth.
Again, depends on the child and their ability to handle themselves.
Brushing of the teeth as long as you have walked them through the steps, no younger than 5.
Walking alone or with friends, I would say 10 or 11 in this day and age.
Again, these are my opinions, some states have legislation on this topic.

Well, I only have an answer for #4. I walked 4 blocks to school by myself starting in Kindergarten.

I'm pretty sure by that time, I did the other 3 by myself as well. I was 4 going on 5.

I would say 8 for the Washing and Stuff and maybe 9 or 10 with the walking to school alone.

For the first three, anywhere between five and six years old, depending on the kid. There's still a pretty big range of "typical" when they're that young.

A two-block walk shouldn't be a big deal but I know *I'd* feel better if they went with a friend. I used to walk nearly a mile to First Grade but there was usually a half-dozen of us. Plus it was a different world, then.

We are begining to allow our 4 year old to wash herself (we are there and she washes herself while we wash her younger sisters and she does a pretty good job, we just tell her where to wash. As to alone in the tub our doctor recommended 5 years but parents are close by and the door is open and you just work your way up from there. I wallked to school (4 blocks) by myself when I 6 years old (but then it was a different time). I would say at least 7 years old if they walk correctly when you are with them (meaning stop at corners and cross in cross walks, etc).

My son is 2.5 and he has been able to take a bath since he was 1.5 by himself.

He is able to wash himself (except his hair) since he was 2.

He has been brushing his teeth since he was 2 by himself.

The whole walking two blocks I think personaly for me I wont be comfy with it until hes about 7.
