I'm from an Italian family. I would serve a small side of spaghetti with it. Also a caesar salad, garlic rolls or bread. I would get an easy dessert like some good spumoni ice cream and serve that with a biscotti or some small Italian cookie that you should be able to find at the grocery store. I just donated a Lasagna dinner party to my parish festival. I am making the lasagne, the same salad and rolls that I suggested to you and I am making a homemade cheesecake. I would serve Chianti for the wine and believe it or not the ones that AREN'T in a wicker bottle are better than those that are. If you can't find Chiante, try a Lambrusco but please don't get a cheap one.......Have fun with your party.

asparagus & roma tomatoes
3 bacon
1/4 c green onion
3 T vinegar
1T water
2t sugar
1/4 t salt
1.5 lbs asparagus
4 med tomatoes
cook bacon until crips, remove, crumble, set to the side
saute onions in drippings
add all but the asp & tmatoes, bring to a boil
add asp. coer and cook 5 min
cut tomatoes into 6-8th (depending on their heartiness) cook covered for about 3 minutes, serve imemdiately.
you can also use balsamic
a nice pilaf would be good also - the entree is quite hearty already - don't over do it.
while you can still serve any wine, a nice chianti is always fun.
OOH have good warm bread with plugra butter & roasted garlic for those who like that over butter!
dessert -- way too many options maybe something seasonal or based upon the diets of the guests.... back home we'd do something old fashioned -- a Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff -- something that is simple, sweet and something people don't always have anymore -- make a lasting impression!

I don't drink so I can't help you with wine.
Side dishes can be an easy to put together salad consisting of baby spring lettuce, chopped strawberries and mandarin orange pieces and raisins tossed with some Raspberry Viniagrette dressing.
Consider also some steamed veggies mixed together, such as squash, zucchini and carrots.
For dessert you can make an easy yet elegant cheesecake. It takes maybe 15 minutes to prepare from crust to oven and about 50 mintues to bake.
ORIGINIAL CHEESECAKE
Crust
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup sugar
5 tbsp. butter, melted
Filling
3 8 oz. pkgs. cream cheese,softened
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1/2 - 1 can sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 350.
Mix crust ingredients together and press in the bottom of a 9" springform pan or 13 x 9 cake pan. Set aside
Beat cream cheese and sugar together until smooth, about 5 minutes. Add vanilla and sweetened condensed milk and mix well. Add eggs 1 at a time, blending until just mixed.
Pour cheesecake into prepared crust and bake for about 50 minutes. Cool on counter, then refrigerate.
You can top it with some fresh fruit, drizzle with some chocolate sauce, warmed cherry pie filling, etc. YUMMY

When I make chicken parmesan I serve it with herbed pasta and garlic bread. Just check the spice aisle for toss and serve herb blends.
We generally don't have wine with our meals but a Chardonnay would be lovely with chicken and tomato.
As for dessert, something light would need to follow a meal like that - chicken parmesan sits like a stone. A nice piece of light cake would be good, especially topped with whipped cream. I'm simple in that I'd be happy even with Jell-o afterwards. If you wanted to be interesting you could do individual trifles using mini angel food cakes, canned fruit or frozen berries, instant vanilla pudding and whipped cream.

Green salad with a choice of dressings. I think chicken should be served with a white wine. For dessert you can serve strawberry short cake with ice cream. Some may like whipped cream but I like it with ice cream. My second choice for dessert is cherry cheese cake. I like the Jello Cheese Cake out of the box. For 6-8 people you need two boxes and they will fit a oblong cake pan. Top with prepared cherry pie filling.

I think a great side salad with seasonal veggies is great. Tomatoes are still in their peak. Another little salad is a Mozarella, tomato and basil drizzled with a little Olive Oil.
Ziffendale, Chardonay are both great wines. I think the wine you like the most is always good no matter what the meat.
Dessert - Anything Chocolate
Chocolate goes with everything.

Not sure about wine, But for side dishes and dessert I find plain old pasta with marinara or even meat sauce is a good side dish with chicken parm. Also keep with the italiam theme and do Tarimisu for desert its a coffee desert and not hard to make or there is always cheesecake which everyone likes.

Roasted or Grilled veggies. For Italian meals, I would suggest a mix of Onion, Zucchini, Red Pepper and Eggplant. Cut onion and eggplant in slices( Onion 1/2" thick, Eggplant 1" thick. Slice red pepper in half and remove stem, seeds and ribbing. Cut ends off zucchini and slice in half lengthwise. For roasting, lay out on foiled sheet pan and brush with olive oil and lightly season with salt and pepper. Turn and repeat this last step on other side. place in preheated oven at 450 degrees and check after 7 to 10 minutes. Turn veggies or rotate pan in oven for even browning. should be "El Dente" soft enough to cut with a fork without mashing. After cooking, cut veggies into smaller bite size pieces and toss into a bowl for serving
I would serve a nice Chianti or Shiraz with this meal. Keep dessert simple. Poach some skinned halved apple, pears or peaches. Poach them in juice or for adults a nice brandy until hot all the way through. Serve in a wide rimmed wine glass and top with whipped cream or sorbet and perhaps a drizzle of that brandy to enhance the flavor.

A green salad with Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sweet onions and croutons. Top with balsamic vinaigrette. A good dessert would be a chocolate cheese cake or chocolate cake or maybe some chilled milk chocolate with nuts in them.
Chocolate Cheesecake with Chocolate Wafer Crust
Chocolate Wafer Crust:
1 8 1/2 ounce package chocolate wafers
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
To make crust, crush wafers. Add melted butter to make crumbly dough. Press into bottom of 9 inch spring form pan. Set aside.
Filling:
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
9 ounces semisweet chocolate
4 3 ounce packages cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup whipping cream
6 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
whipped cream, optional
To make filling, melt butter in top of double boiler over hot water. Add chocolates and heat until melted, stirring until smooth. Beat cheese until creamy. Add vanilla and whipping cream. Stir in chocolate mixture. Beat eggs with sugar and slowly beat into chocolate mixture. Turn into crust and bake at 350F 40 to 45 minutes, or until cake puffs slightly in center. Cool, then chill thoroughly before
Balsamic Vinaigrette
1 clove garlic, peeled
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Place all ingredients in a small plastic container with a lid. Stir this with a fork and let it sit for about 10 minutes to infuse the garlic flavor in the dressing. Remove the garlic clove, add the oil and shake to combine. Taste for salt and pepper and adjust.
